Wilfried Zaha return

stats can be misleading.

In the 2015/16 Bolasie got injured and was out for c3 or 4 months that season. He got injured v Stoke just before Christmas when we were fifth in the table. I don't think we won a game in the period he was out and drifted worryingly down the table eventually finishing 15th (our lowest prem finish). Just checked, next win was v Norwich in early April. So no win in 3 1/2 months.

He came back in time for the semi v Watford and of course scored in that game. Wilf played well in that game too BTW.

Well done Wilf on his US debut. No issue with the guy and wish him success. Maybe i just don't have such rose tinted glasses as some
Sure, they can - a fan base voting someone as their best player isn't misleading though.

I'm not going to pretend I have any great memory of individual performances 10 years ago, but I'm happy to conclude that the person voted player of the year and with more appearances than anyone else in the squad wasn't second fiddle to anyone.

We only won two league games the rest of that season! Bolasie didn't "come back in time for the semi" - he was back in the squad from the end of February and we still didn't win a league game until the April.

Clearly we view it differently - I don't think it's helpful pretending you're the only one with an objective view of it or that everyone else is just blinded by loyalty - your view seems very much based on wanting to provide a contrarian opinion, which is just as much of a bias as any rose-tinted memories.

My point is, as you probably know, is that we didn't win a league game in Bolasie's absence. Clearly we didn't win every game when he did play, surely that's a given.

i'm not sure why you are giving so much weight to the POTY award. Wilf scored 2 goals in 15/16 so was hardly tearing defences apart. However, extending your logic as Wilf didn't win POTY in his last 5 seasons at the club he clearly didn't keep us up single handed during this period, as some suggest.

Sure, but that's not proving anything when we also barely won any games at all in the 2nd half of the season - Bolasie came back, and results were much the same. I'm also not at all denying that Bolasie was a key player for us at that time, but his return at the end of February did not coincide with any upturn in form or results. There is no correlation there.

I'm giving POTY weight because it's an easy way to determine who fans were most impressed with at the time, without having to pretend we can remember specific performances that far back - the fan base collectively determined that Wilf was our best player that season, despite only scoring two league goals. I think that's very telling.

Your final sentence is not an extension of any logic.

Fundamentally we don't have to agree! Rating players is not an objective thing and there was always be different takes.
