Wilfried Zaha return

As was reported back in the summer, Zaha would not be able to return to the UK for tax reasons - assuming that he didn't want HMRC to get hold of a chunk of his overseas earnings.

Had that not been the case, then I could envisage Parish bringing him back to Palace.

Would that have worked out ? Well, we'll never know. I would venture to suggest that he would have contributed more than Kamada, Nketiah and possibly Sarr have to date.

Ultimately I'm glad he couldn't return. I'm happy to stick with the memories of the good times we had with him.

He could have been our "Jaimie Vardy" he is still only 32.

Don't think I would want him back anymore now. The grass isn't always greener away from home. He made his bed and now he can lay in it.

Does anyone watch any of Lyon? Its hard to understand such a dramatic drop off in ability.

From the stats it looks like he's on the very periphery of the first team squad. Sometime makes the bench, but not always, only 71mins in the league all season. Hooked off in the only game he's started and only a few minor sub appearances since.

But they are pretty stacked in the wide forward position. Fofana, Cherki, Benrahma, Nuamah, Wilf.

Not in the squad at all for last nights match against Frankfurt.
His demise seems strange. Is it his attitude or has he simply become useless?

Let’s be honest, it seemed like his best years were behind him before he left us, Galatasary and Lyon are top European sides and I think it’s now a case of not ‘he’s just too good for you’ but ‘he’s just not good enough’

If Wilf is prepared to take a huge drop in salary I would consider it. The tax deadline is only 3 months away from Jan 1 so he is probably okay to come for 90 days without getting a tax bill.

It's really about do we want him back and would he be prepared to play a secondary role?

I cannot believe that he has gotten that bad that quickly. I think he failed to appreciate the love Palace had for him. We as a whole put up with his moody behaviour, the arm waving and moaning because there were still times he turned games for us.

I still think that back in a place he knows and has a history with, around a lot of staff and a chairman that he gets on with, basically comes home, he still offers more than we have.

Honestly who would you rather have on the bench. Jeff or Wilf. Kamada or Wilf. Eddie or Wilf. I know who I would rather have. And now he has something to prove.

Its a simple yes from me.

I think this is right. Wilf was wonderful for us but in later seasons he wasn’t as effective. Quite a few games he was marked out of them and struggled to make an impact. Ultimately just not quite good enough for a top team either in terms of impact or attitude. There is a reason Bayern jumped at the chance to spend £50m on Olise but no club of that size ever made a big offer for Wilf.

What I would really not want is for him to come back and underperform. That would be sad but I’m not sure he would fit with what Glasner wants either. I’d rather have the brilliant memories

Ever since Wilf left I’ve always thought he jumped ship because all off a sudden it dawned on him, that with Eze and Olise on fire, he wasn’t going to be our main man anymore, our talisman, we had other heroes to worship

I heard he wasn't happy with the squad, nor the manager. He wanted us to show ambition - which we did not. And he wanted rid of the rubbish in the squad. He didn't rate some of the players at all. Particularly a French clique that was around at the time. Remember him laughing at Mateta's training? There were squad issues and Roy was not going to sort that, or bring us up the table, or try in cups. I'm not in the know, just heard rumors and pieced together the odd bit of news.
One would think he started to think he'd made a bit of a mistake when we got Glasner and had Olise tearing down defences. He also was never going to fit in in Turkey. They're not exactly into diversity, patience and understanding. The whole thing was ridiculous - we offer 100k plus but he goes to Galatasaray for far less. He f***ed himself with his decision.
However the alternative for him was never having tried. Better to try and fail, than not try at all - apparently. And he did not think Crystal Palace were trying - except being very trying for us all.

I remember that he said "Mateta could not head a ball" and was laughing at him

he had his Old Trafford moment - can't see him coming back as a bit part player/impact sub for a reduced wage, and as Glasner gradually gets his men in I think he'll go for more tactocally astute team players than individualists. I can see him ending up somewhere like Luton, he would follow Barkley and Moses, some Championship side who need a bit of flair.

Under OG maybe wilf being marked out of games would open spaces. Just a thought as Glasner has a bit more tactical nouse imo.

Pleased when he went to chase his dreams, maybe he has had time to think about why he ended up where he did. Want him back? No thanks.
the fact is that since he left us he has had limited impact in Turkey and now next to no impact at Lyon.

That says to me he is no longer capable of performing at Prem League standards. It would be similar to when AJ came back to Palace.

Thanks for the memories and let's all move on

Correct.
No place for his childish petulance which would potentially affect team morale and discipline.
