Why Parish shouldn’t resign!

He’s done a great job, but it’s creaking a bit with the lack of progress on the stadium, the Europa fiasco and the transfer window saga. Glasner’s made them all look good and yes Steve helped appoint him.
 
It’s amazing how one seriously shambolic performance and it’s all SP fault. Yes we should have invested more on the squad in the summer, but we also have to stay in our lane.
As I posted at the start of this thread, be careful what you wish for.
As far as I am concerned SP is not perfect, but when you consider our previous owners he isn't doing too bad.
Noades sold us down the river and started the whole mess of not owning the ground.
Goldberg was a complete clown and nearly destroyed us.
Jordan didn’t have the funds and nearly destroyed us
Parish and co got promoted, spent 12 years in Premiership and won FA cup and charity shield all whilst doing it on a budget and keeping the club on an even financial footing.

I have started to wonder why some supporters “support” Palace, we are a mid size club, we have a sh!t stadium, and we can not compete in a football world where the elite change the rules to stop the rest of us from aspiring to be at the top.

I support Palace because I have always loved being the underdog, we have always worked on a relative shoestring and still been able to bloody the noses of the elite.
Supporters are entitled to their opinions on how the club is run I guess, but please be realistic about the club you support.

Wise words indeed.
Simply compare our revenue compared to many in the PL and we have to adhere to the Financial Regulations.
I suspect finishing in the 'Top 10' without having to look down the table is viewed as a 'Target'.
To expect top 6 finishes is fanciful.

In total agreement Paul FWIW.
It also has to be a consideration on if we have a long term plan inc the manager. If OG signed say a 5 year deal then SP I’m sure would invest as he requires but we see from other teams his system is difficult to implement and work. I doubt any of us would invest heavily if it were temporary unless essential and we are not in a position to need that. We need five wins for safety and even with our current squad that should be a gimme.

I would have thought running a Premier League club would be long-term and not a temporary investment no matter who the manager is. Like any business, I would have thought planning for the future is paramount, even if the manager leaves/resigns.

I agree that any business has to be run with the long term in mind, but football is unique in a way. What I mean by that is that in the background the club has to be run with the long term in mind, but the team is often more reactionary, as this greatly depends on the manager in charge and systems they want to play.
How many times have we seen players play out of position because of the managers system? You can not simply overhaul your squad every time to accommodate a new manager especially if they are not committing to a long term contract.
This is where it went wrong with De Boer.
We have always had a clear DNA of how we play and what has always been successful for us is to be a physical fast counter attacking team. This is something that we need to consider when appointing any new manager and any player recruitment. This way you can plan for the future. The manager has to fit in with us and not the other way round!

It's all about forward planning, taking into account any problems/conditions that might or might not affect your business plan along the way.

Having run a fairly successful business for a number of years I can assure you that you cannot plan for every eventuality. You will have a five year plan but as they say, plans go out the window at first contact!

Agreed.

How many fans at most clubs have heard those words from a new owner "five year plan".

It's nonsense as how can you plan for things that are out of your control. And what is this great plan, "to win things playing attractive football." We all want that but if it was that easy..

So you throw money at the problem that works just as Portsmouth fans or any other clubs. Okay don't throw money but then how are you going to build a team?

The truth is that it is very difficult to find a manager and players that gel and bring success. And the moment you do the vultures start circling so trying to hold onto those people is even harder (Southampton and now Palace).

The only thing you can plan for is stuff like new stadiums or training grounds the rest is in the lap of the gods.

If you run a business and don't plan for every eventuality, more fool you. I was self-employed and did alright until I retired.

Self employed and running a business is not the same thing. I don’t doubt your success but you can not plan for everything.
Who could have planned for Covid, or losing a player through death (Emiliano Sala/Jota) or even being unfairly kicked out of your rightful place in Europe (twice)
These are just a few examples straight off my head.

I was self-employed and ran my own business would that be alright.
