Should Parish resign

Should Parish resign?

Be very careful what you wish for!

There seems to be two camps at loggerheads regarding SP stewardship of our great club. Those that seem to think he can do no wrong simply because he and others saved Palace from the administrators, and there are others that seem to think he is the devil incarnate and is a complete fool!

My personal opinion is that he is probably doing the very best he can for Palace, but like all of us he is prone to making mistakes. There is not one of us (as far as I know) that has ever run a multi million pound football club with all the complexities involved. I have owned and run a medium sized business for a number of years and I can assure you it is bloody stressful, tiring and at times soul destroying, and at other times it is rewarding and joyful to not to have to answer to anyone else. For these reasons I do have a lot of respect for the job that he does.

For me the most important point to remember is that SP is running the club in a way that he believes is sustainable and secure well beyond his tenure (however long that may be)

We must also take into account that he cannot control everything going on around him. He had no control over John Textor selling his shares. This would have massively impacted our transfer market strategy. He would not have been able to commit funds until the new director was in place. He also couldn’t control if and when the Arse and Bin dippers would submit bids for Eze/Mark.

In business you have your best laid plans set out in front of you, but often you have to pivot and go with other options and best case scenario. Which is what I believe happened with Mark last night. I am sure that SP and OG would have had targets that were agreed on. There is also no doubt it was agreed that Mark would not go if those replacements were not in place, and clearly those replacements fell through and SP took the option to cancel the deal for the greater good of the club.

Does this make us look silly, well probably it does but who cares what others think? Personally I think it is a show of strength that we will not be bullied by these supposed big clubs.

The final point of my ramblings is that I do believe we have to be very careful what we wish for. You only have to look at our past two periods of administration. You can also look at mismanagement at the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton, Portsmouth. The list of clubs not being run sustainably is long and other fan bases would love to be in our position. So as much as I would love Palace to be big spenders and flout the rules all in all I am happy with our lot under SP stewardship.

I find it mind-blowing that some can't see the good Steve Parish has done for CPFC and I see no reason he will not continue to do the same in the future. Everybody ... EVERYBODY ... makes mistakes along the way. That doesn't mean they are not good or capable. He should NOT resign!
Perfection is not in the gift of living beings.
Even monkeys fall from trees.

Strange as it may seem to some, I have noticed on a number of social media platforms, where videos of Palace and SP appear, how many fans from other clubs comment how much they wished they had a Chairman like ours; open, honest opinions, integrity and passion (for the club) are words frequently used. I think that says a lot about how he appears to those a bit further removed from all the drama than us.

As the OP said, be careful what you wish for - there are more Forest fatmen types out there than there are Steve Parishes

Indeed. Have a look at what Tottenham fans think of their chairman. They're right but even so...
They're not pining for Alan Sugar's return but even for them that would be strange.

I dont think he should resign given the job done over last 15 years.

No one gets it right all the time. There are some learns from the summer and be interesting when Steve P does his next in depth interview if talks about them. He needs to ensure he the right people in to support him and hopefully if we take on the director of football (ex wolves guy) this will help.

Two focuses this season are the future of Glasner and the stadium IMO

Steve Parish is a man of unimpeachable integrity, he possesses real gravitas and presence and is a gentleman who commands great esteem. His clarity of thought is worthy of admiration.
In my humble opinion, his stewardship of our club has been exemplary.
I tip my Palace Fedora.
👍 👍
Hi Steve
So glad you've lifted your head above the parapet. 😉

I'd have preferred this thread to have been given a different title. Something like 'Why Parish Should NOT Resign' would be more appropriate.

The OP is making good points in favour of Mr P, as are the associated posts. He is held in high regard by the football community at large (maybe Mr Jordan wouldn't agree) and most of us, deep down, recognise that he handles the club's affairs with aplomb. There is no denying he is Palace through and through, and as Becky wrote, there aren't many club chairmen who have the same connection with the club they oversee.

I assume the question has been raised as the result of our dealings in the wretched 'window'. I for one believe the end result is satisfactory for a club of our standing and the 'Transfer Window Closed' thread says it all really. We all know that the money spent by Liverpool for instance is obscene and the success we have squeezed out of our low cost, and in some cases, low paid squad beggars belief.

So, there is no question about resigning. Mr P has done and is doing a fine job in developing the interests of CPFC. Watch now as he sets about the redevelopment of Selhurst Park.

What I find amazing so far is that none of SP detractors have piped up.(assuming Lanzo was being ironic!) Is that because deep down they know what a difficult job he has, trying to keep Palace competitive in a non-competitive league.
Yes it could have had a different title, but what’s in a title? To be honest I’m new to posting, I have previously tended to be more a voyeur of the site due to not having the time or inclination to get into a slanging match with someone who gets personal because of a different opinion.
