Who is our set piece coach?

Henderson's a fantastic keeper except in my view struggles at corners or incoming free kicks
Opposing teams always have someone intimidating him as they know it's his weakness. One of ours should be protecting him. It's the classic Arsenal tactic which other teams now use unfortunately we don't as yet up the other end.

To answer the initial question, Michael Angeschmid and Ronny Brunmayr should be in charge for this.
There's a piece on Glasner talking about set pieces and he seems to say everyone should have input but that he makes the final choices.

I think it's in this piece.

Well, I think the final decision is always on him. That's what he is paid for. But he stressed their role when set pieces improved at the beginning of his reign.

We don't seem to be any good at set pieces - attacking or defending. We seemed good at the start of the season.
From what I can see we seem very static , marking nothing ,not moving and just giving the opposition a free hit .Our players are noticeably standing still at set plays ,the opposition are like bees around a honeypot . And as we know you can jump higher if you are moving than from a standing jump.

With every team adopting this Arsenal approach to set pieces it’s not possible to man mark players who are bunched at the back post. You have to have players at both posts who concentrate on attacking the ball and either a keeper who is prepared to come for it or a centre back who can head. We currently have none of the above without Sarr, Munoz, and Richards. Consequently balls into the box are a lottery and provide second ball tap ins for opposing strikers.

I think i read this morning that 52% of the goals we've conceded this season have been from set prices.

Its pretty worrying.

But also shows that teams struggle to break us down in open play.

The 52% stat is very disappointing but I like the positivity of your last point. Surely, we can work on and improve our set piece defending. That is within our control. Plus, we have key set piece defenders to return - Richards, Sarr, Lerma.

When our set piece defending does improve, coupled with our good open play defending - we should start firing and climbing up the league again.

We're very compact in defense for set pieces especially for corners - and crowd our box with many players occupying a small space. I don't think this helps with winning 2nd balls as it could lead to misunderstanding even restricted sight lines and thinking that it's someone else's job to deal with it.
Also it means that if someone clears it, there are more opposition players than our own waiting on the periphery to collect. It's Great for Blocking shots, but perhaps we need more space in there and trust our defence more.

And we're almost blocking our own keeper from getting to the ball. Henderson needs to come for crosses and catch them, in my opinion. I haven't been keen on the punches and staying on the line has clearly not worked. I'm pretty sure he came for crosses and corners and collected many of them before. I presume the current system is an instruction.

Situation dictated by the opposition. If teams crowd the 6-yard box with players we have no option but to defend this area.It then becomes what is described as a "Crowd scene".

True, but even in one for one 'man marking' the oppo aren't going to put all 10 of their outfield players in the box. so do we need all 10 of ours?
