Where do we go from here?

The cross would not have been viewed as "Superb" if our defenders had not allowed Osula so much space to prod it past Benitez. Diabolical defending.
I’m trying hard not to defend our slack defending, but sitting in the Whitehorse with a great view of it, the cross really was excellent and you could say it took our defence and keeper out of the game it was that good, but obviously we’re on a downer at the moment and we’ll always say we could’ve defended it better

We'll do what we always do:

-Bring in a defensive firefighter manager to keep us safe and steady the ship.

-upgrade to a more ambitious manager when the firefighter has run his course.

-start playing well and showing promise.

-sell our best players and replace them with junk.

-blame the manager for the downswing in performance

-Bring in a defensive firefighter manager to keep us safe and steady the ship.

Groundhog football.

Indeed, and I would go further , we didn't stop the cross.
The ball was played behind Mitchell, Canvot was drawn out to cover but failed to stop the cross and was also then not in box to help defend the ensuing ball in.

Mitchell in his time with us has been one of the best full backs in the division at stopping crosses.
However, he's starting position further forward now means he often chasing back trying to recover rather than having the play in front of him where he can get tight to his man.
On the other side neither Khalaili or Mingueza look comfortable preventing crosses, whatever their other attrubutes may be.
I wholeheartedly concur with these sentiments.
I will add that neither Mitchell or Wharton are not the players of old since Sage has arrived.
Apropos Khalaili, he clearly looked impressive in the Belgian League but his defending in the PL leaves a great deal to be desired and he has struggled to meet the demands in such a challenging League.

How someone is afforded so much space in front of goal is unforgivable.

I think this is spot on, and one of the most striking things watching the team this season. I am the first to say that a managers tactics are only as good as the players performances, but when you see as reliable a player as Mitchell constantly trying to recover position, having seen it so rarely for so long, it's difficult to attribute it to anything other than the specific details in the coaching.

I know where we could go from here, it won’t help the defending, but Osorio was a positive yesterday when he came on and deserves a start.
Osorio is basically a winger but we don't play with wingers.
I am informed that his strengths lie in his long-range shooting and his crossing with his precise left-foot. Furthermore he can advance left or right when faced with a direct opponent.
I believe we have an option to buy for £24 Mill.

This is my issue. I completely understand the argument for sacking, and that goals conceded rate is alarming.

BUT, apart from 10 mins yesterday we were the better team. And in the first half shifted the balance to keep things tight (which blunted us a little going forward).

So what happened in those first 10 mins of the 2nd half. Did Sage tell the team at HT to open up a little more? Or was it the players just coming out of the blocks slowly?
I think it was more that Newcastle knew once they had those two goals they had won the match. Don’t think you can go on how good we looked after conceding those goals - match over!

Having taken a 2-0 lead Newcastle were content to manage the game, hence we had more of the ball without unduly threatening their goal. Defensively they were resolute, far removed from what we have witnessed from our team.

Apart from them scoring two more goals than us which I hear is quite important in games of football. What do I know though not being a top level owner or manager?

Amazing really that I’ve been so wrong thinking conceding over two goals a game is a problem but again I must lack the insight only available to top level football professionals and those lucky enough to catch pearls of wisdom as they fall from them
I get goals win games but we are looking for consistency. Which for me was better over the last 2 matchs . We have been scoring but yesterday , we gifted them there 2nd and we had no real threat after Mateta went off .
Still created but no end result . We have been complaining about our defence which was just . but they played as a better unit . but midfield wasn't tracking back fast enough to help . So has we sort one thing and another issue arises . Yesterday Sage saw nothing in the first half that threated us . So pushed up like most managers do looking for the early goal . McNeil put a great cross ball in and nobody gambled , they put a better one in and gambled . You cant teach how to deal with that . So overall result was crap but a better performance. . Wharton has lost form needs dropping he caused the 2nd goal . I try to look at the overall performance rather than 10 to 15 minutes , and I watch defence like a hawk

Pereira took up the reins at Wolves when they were in the relegation zone in 19th place after 16 PL games.
Wolves finished in 16th place.
The following season, he was dismissed by Wolves after 10 PL games with the club bottom on 2 pts.
At Nottm Forest he took charge after 26 PL games with the club in 17th place. They finished 16th and he was dismissed in pre-season.

Willo have you ever played in defence . Going by your reckoning any cross ball were a goal goes in is diabolical defending . No matter what teams in the Premier lge you get the ball out wide and cross it , so all our goals from crosses are diabolical defending by the opposition. You cant have it both ways

Makes sense ,the possible link not me endorsing it .
He uses the 3 at the back but is flexible and has used more traditional formations .
Has performed a few rescue jobs .
Lot of experience.
Would prefer this to Mr Dyche .

I was being specific about our defending for the opening goal yesterday. The fact that Osula was allowed so much space between our defenders was diabolical.
I am not advocating then every goal scored from a cross is a result of abject defending.

I thought Thursday night’s performance was an improvement and I was hoping for that to be carried into yesterday’s game. The first half yesterday was uninspiring from either team albeit I thought we were the better team but the second half, I thought we were running around like headless chickens. I left 10 minutes early yesterday but from what I’ve read on here, there was not a togetherness after the final whistle.
If only we had an option of a reset button - whatever that might look like.
Spurs away on Halloween - now thats looking like a real horror show!

I am really struggling to see any light at the end this tunnel today. Yesterday I was in deep thought modus and contributed a post on the "Time" thread that was generally well received, but today I can't even begin to pretend I have an idea where we go from here. It's always the same isn't it? Any club in crisis needs only to play us and we do them a favour. I am of course not a top trainer 🙂-)) but I do coach and even I can see the gaps to play into behind our wing/full-backs. The back 3, any permutation is constantly pulled apart. This must NOT be allowed to continue but it is, every match.
Osorio? good cameo. As Willo said though, he is a winger. We don't do that. Anyway, he replaced McNeil, and although hardly a world-beater, he has looked capable and up for a scrap in the last two matches. The sight of Wharton & Kamada being out-played/fought....out everything'd (!!) was depressing. I'm sure we were only in the acsendancy in the last 30 minutes because Newcastle managed the game easily.
I hate the idea of switching trainers/coaching staff but, and I am only guessing, something is not right. messaging, personal relationships (what is really going on with Sarr for instance). Hell, I despair.

Our centre backs aren't bad, its the system. Do you think Roy would allow his CBs dribbling up the pitch and then losing the ball leaving us exposed? A team is built on its defence, making it hard for the opponents, not leaving wide open spaces for them to run into. Its not pretty to watch, but giving a 2 goal advantage to the opposition is only going to end in one result.

All three are poor, Canvot as promising as he is, has been a liability since he signed, makes a mistake every game, its not his fault as we shouldn't be relying on a 20 year old, he needs time to develop. Disasi has absolutely no awareness at all, no wonder chelsea cant wait to get rid of him at any opportunity apparently was good at west ham but if he's our cb then we're in trouble. Richards the best out of all three but still terrible at dealing with crosses into the box, works on the right of a back three but wouldn't be good enough in the middle of a back 4.

Yes the way we play obviously doesn't help and just highlights how poor they really are, if a new manager wants to play with a back 4 then I think all 3 still struggle.

A lot of Forest fans were bemoaning Pereira being replaced by Glasner in the summer, and those voices have been getting louder the longer their poor run of form continues. Forest have a similar squad to us in terms of the type of players, so perhaps he would be a good shout if Sage goes. I actually quite like Dyche as a person (so far as he comes across in interviews), but I'm not sure his more physical and direct approach would suit our current squad. Pereira certainly got more out of the Forest players than Dyche.
