What’s the point of Palace

In 8 years you've made 1600+ posts on this site and probably spent the equivalent of 2/3 years reading other posts. Add to that time spent reading elsewhere about Palace, going to matches, watching matches, reading post match reviews, taking about matches/players/managers/relegation possibilities, and that's another huge chunk of your life gone.

If it weren't for Palace, you'd probably have had to have spent most of that time talking to your wife, doing stuff around the house or going shopping with her.

And you dare to ask what the point is? 😮
Not shopping

i wonder what fans outside us looking in must think?

12ish years in the premier league, solid mid table outfit, 2 trophies this year, multiple england internationals, in European competition.

Must be really awful?
Very true. I know a couple of Dunfermline fans who almost treat Palace (they've sort of adopted us as their English team) as some kind of Real Madrid equivalent but until this season they hadn't paid a transfer fee since 2008/9 - just got by on loans and free transfers.
The point being that they think just as much of their club as we do of ours.

Yep those Stoke, Cardiff, Sheffield Wednesday etc fans must be laughing how bad we are doing 😂

Ask the question in five year's time when the Carabao, Conference League, Europa League, Champions League, World Club, and Premiership trophies are safely locked away in a Mission Impossible style vault in the new stadium. They'll have to invent new competitions for us to win!

And Eze will only be 32 so he can come back for when we play the Planet Zarg in the inter-galactic cup final.

just looked at his skills, very very good
We can still get gazumped at the last moment, as only we can do.
The funniest one I heard was I think Flynn Downes. I think it was him. He was in the office waiting for Parish on his own. He left after a while when no one showed. Signed for someone else. Or he could have been the one on the train coming to sign for us, got a call from someone else and just went there. Either way - have you heard the likes from other clubs?

I remember seeing him in the car park chatting to David Nugent.

Born in Croydon Hospital . Emigrated to Sydney in 69 . Went to my first palace match in 68 as a ten year old .

It was a five nil win against Carlisle . I know it was that game as I knew we won 5 nil and that was the only 5/0 win . My strongest memory of living in England was the game against Fulham , they were going to be relegated and we needed to win to get to the 1st for the first time .

At half time we were 2 nil down and the place was like a morgue . Depressing sipping my Bovril from my thermos . Those who were will remember the feeling in the second half as we came back to win 3/2 . Being born in Croydon and being at that match , there’s no way I could ever support any other club .

My support is unconditional .

I’m naturalised Aussie now and we have a “ friendly term “ we use describe some English ( still have my UK passport , bet each way ) , “ whinging pommy b’s “

Steve Parish is the best thing that has happened to palace .

He runs the club like a business but has still
managed to win the FA cup and keep the club up in the EPL during which time we have been entertained by some of the best player in our 100 year history .

It would be possible to just cut and paste the chat around here during the transfer window from the last few years , change the names and we’d be up todate

It’s the same each time , a couple of early additions , lots of speculations and finally a last minute additions which people complain about being inadequate and then we get to the point of being an established premier club which has won two trophies in the last few months .

And you know what also doesn’t change … the same constant whinging about how SP doesn’t know what he’s doing .

I’d say the results show he knows a lot more about what he’s doing than all the glass completely empty people around here .

Yes not everyone is negative , but geeze …

As has been said on here to 100 threads, but always worth repeating the mantra:

It is the hope that kills you.

However hard we try there are times when we hope something good will happen. We win the FA Cup (for christ sake!). In that moment of weakness we hope this is the breakthrough at last and we are heading up to those dizzy heights we always knew were unobtainable for the likes of us.

Then we get the transfer window, usual Palace crash down to earth,. Well, could have been worse and probably will get worse before the end of the window. Now THAT is the Palace way!

The last paragraph needs to be read in a Sean Connery accent.

There isn't much point if you're talking what directly benefits you.

It costs you money and disappointment is a part of football. It's not there to cheer you up persay.

Unless you follow a club that challenges for honours on the regular, you won't get the reflected glory of winning silver-wear. This is the reality of most people who aren't glory hunting, you take your successes where you can.

You follow your chosen team because of the love of the game and maybe your connection to the area or family connection....whatever it is.

I think some can take it too seriously and the game can effect their mental health, and in those situations I think it makes sense to step back and do other things that can give you more benefits like learning an instrument or language, exercise, playing games or going out with your mates or something social.

I've noticed that if you have an addictive personality then football can become too much of your life and in those cases you often need good people around you to ease you away from football a bit....at the end of the day it's only one hobby.....it's just a hobby designed to pay other people wages.

If it isn't more fun than detriment then ease into other things.
Same with News and Politics, surely?

Best post I've seen on here for a long time... I too emigrated to Aus in 1990. I grew up in Downham and went to school near the ground. 1979, walked from school down to the Friday night Burnley game and got in by 4.30pm waiting in the Holmesdale. Brilliant with the "surges" every 10 minutes.

Watched every game at 2 am in Aus and more lately joined Sydney Supporters club.

10 years ago moved to Vietnam and now watch every game 4 hours earlier on K+ (which show every premier league game live for $100 per year) which is a relief.

My Palace supporting son, Jake, still in Sydney and for the FA final I flew to Sydney just to watch the game with him in a pub in Sydney with 200 other palace faithful. What a night!!

I too had tears in my eyes and everyone there that night knows what I mean.

But guys, yes we all get frustrated but this is Palace.

The one thing that did make me think lately was the Textor interview on TalkSport lately with SJ where he said Steve Parish needs be more adventurous and his concern is still staying up.

Apart from that Parish is great.

Guys, we have still not lost (much) since April and going into our euro night tonight

Things are still Palace and still "Beautiful"

C'mon

Costs no money and can be done at home taking no significant time.

Not really seeing the equivalence.
Well, from what I can see, you spend so much time on there that I do wonder:

"News and Politics forums can become too much of your life"

I'd contest 'No significant time'

But hey ho. Nae bother. Move on.
