I think some people have seen a more attacking “progressive” footballing side under Sage. What I’ve seen has been a disorganised and chaotic set of performances. It might look attacking in theory but what it mostly has been is just wide open tactics with lots of running around because players either didn’t know their positions in Sage’s system or were having to cover yawning gaps all over the pitch. You're including cup games against poor opponents. We've scored six goals in five league games or, to be more accurate, five in five because one was an own goal. Again, we've failed to score in three out of five league games. If that's the attacking side of the team firing on all cylinders then what on earth will we do when it isn't?
All but one league goal so far has come from a wingback. In one way that suggests a more attacking mindset, but it also suggests that even in a more attacking system the forwards we have used are still not scoring, despite a more aggressive approach.
Our games have mostly been more open than they would be under Glasner or Roy, but that's not the same as being more of a goal threat. We could have parked the bus and played on the break and scored as many or more. I'm not suggesting we should, but I don't get the idea we are now somehow more likely to score.
What I will say is it was so much tighter, better controlled and organised against Leeds. While we didn’t score we looked as much, if not more, of a threat on the counter.
