What Would You Do?

Here's my situation:

Had a mate (non ST but is a member) who was looking for two tickets to the Chelsea match on January 25th. Posted on this site looking for help and somebody reached out with a DM and offered to help. That was on January 9th. A few days later, they connected directly and agreed to the deal. The person in question requested a payment via Wise, which my mate sent. Then, the seller told us that the club had taken away his transfer ability due to some "inappropriate" activity. Fair enough. But here's the problem: The seller has not refunded my mate's money after several weeks, despite repeated requests. He did send a screen shot that the money would be refunded via Wise on February 3rd, but that did not happen. In the meantime, the seller refuses to respond to any messages.

This is so unusual, as I've bought and sold dozens of times on this board with zero issues, everybody is so honest and kind and helpful.

Here's my question:
Would you publicly warn others of this guy?
Name him publicly so others don't get taken advantage of?

I guess there's a chance he's dead, or in a coma, or has amnesia. But it mostly feels like he's incompetent at best, and dishonest at worst. I don't want others to lose their money like my mate has.

Perhaps this post will serve notice that he ought to pay and he will after seeing this
(He's also in a ST WhatsApp Chat with me and others and I would do the same there.)

Looking for some guidance on how far to take this.
Thanks all.

Yes and Yes.

You can always delete or update the thread if you get the money

Even then, he/she shouldn't keep you hanging, so it came to this.

If it’s been several weeks then he’s unlikely to refund the money. Unfortunately I personally would name the seller to protect others. Like others have said if he does refund you can update the post.

Naming is the bare minimum.

Share their email address too, and make sure they are banned from here and the HoL facebook page .

Obviously a difficult situation - this persons behaviour isn't acceptable but I would point out that once u put the persons name out there its very difficult to retract it (you cant un-know something)

From a humanity point of view - January is a difficult month for a lot of people, often getting paid just before Christmas & the next pay check coming at the end of January (5 or 6 weeks for some) for sure it doesn't justify what's happened but maybe it sheds some light on how things have transpired.

What I would do is to contact the person & say, right, if the money isn't in the bank account by Feb xx (whatever date u / your friend feel able to live with) then I will be publicly naming & shaming u, you have then at least behaved properly / done the decent thing.

Yes name and shame, this is the reason I don’t get involved with selling my season ticket when I’m not going on here. I appreciate there’s so many more genuine people who I’d love to have my ticket if I can’t go, but the occasional scum bag that pops up means I don’t trust anyone

I too only use the club resale facility if I cant go to the game, I don't sell it on anywhere else, I don't want to end up involved in any scam type behaviour or on the receiving end of some irate buyer if the QR code doesn't work, or worse, an email from the club saying my season ticket has been revoked because of scummy behaviour by whoever ended up with the ticket -

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I contacted a moderator (Becky - who sadly passed away last year) explained the situation and she contacted the selling party and I got my money back. If you haven't tried that option I suggest you give that a go.

I appreciate the feedback on this.
It's a tough situation, as you want to give grace to others.
I think the most annoying part is the total lack of communication and respect for a fellow Palace supporter.

Oh, and it turns out I am not the only one he has stiffed on tickets.
(Just found that out last night)

The person in question actually saw this post and reached out to me.
He had been dodging me with zero response for three weeks!

He said the money will be paid this weekend.
I'm going to give him until end of day Monday to do so.

After that, all bets are off.

Thank you again.

Sincerely hope this is resolved for you FrankieD. Best of luck👍

I too, am in that group you mentioned & i see he has been named there. As you say, he has shafted quite a few people & has threatened one person. Hope it all goes well & you get your money back.

This serves as a reminder to be careful when buying re-sale tickets however I would ask those kind souls that do offer available tickets on here to please keep doing so.

I’m on the Season ticket waiting list but even as a Gold Members, my son & I repeatedly struggle to get two Home tickets seated together. This site and members here have helped me out so many times with a pair together that we would be in a pickle without it.

Thank you to the 99% of the members on HoL who are reliable and trustworthy. Warning members of instances where tickets are sold, money is paid but the tickets are not forthcoming is important and will provide crucial information for members future confidence when undertaking ticket transfers.

Just a quick update.

The person who didn't return the money after not delivering the tickets has actually started to communicate. That's a positive thing, it was the ignoring of texts/calls that the most frustrating.

We've now given him until Friday to pay us back.
FINAL DEADLINE.

Better to be kind ... to a point ... we can't control his behavior but we can control our reactions.

There will be a final outcome on Saturday one way or the other.
Hopefully it's resolved, if not ... I WILL let everybody know who he is and not to do business with him.
Mostly to protect others on this board.

I agree with the above sentiment:
99% of supporters on this site are so helpful and looking out for other supporters.
For that, I am grateful.

Thank you all for your feedback.

***UPDATE***

The person in question not only paid my mate last night, but all parties he owed money to.
For me, this is the best possible outcome.
It certainly was frustrating, and we've come to the conclusion he messed up but is not a bad person.
Because he paid and has apologized, we're not going to name him publicly on this board.

The feedback was appreciated, and I remain grateful for fellow Palace supporters.
To call it family might be a stretch, but it's nice we have each others backs.

Now if we could just beat Zrinjski in both legs and Wolves at home...

Hey Frankie

So sorry this happened to your mate but pleased the issue got resolved in the end. Hopefully it has not left a sour taste in his mouth. I still appreciate the tickets you sold my niece and I last season, especially your patience with me as due to an administration error I had two Membership ID's. It was great to be able to share the occasion with her. Your a real credit to the sites members.
I really enjoy this site, buying tickets when I can go and mixing with other fans. I have even bought a couple of away tickets which I would never qualify for.
Lets hope trusting way Holmesdale Online is operated is not ruined but goes from strength to strength.

COYP

Cheers Steve
