Wharton

Just watching England v Albania. Wharton was too passive. Roy Keane said it at half time, neat and tidy, always looking to pass forwards, but as soon as Anderson came on, he was in the same positions as Adam but was absolutely demanding the ball. I think this will be why Anderson gets the nod to start at the moment.
Hate to say it, but Adam was very Kamadaish in his performance tonight. As you say, neat and tidy, easy balls, but nothing too dynamic going forward. Sadly I think you’re right about Anderson

I am of the same opinion.
What a signing by Nottm Forest, just £15 Mill from Newcastle.

I hope he has the summer off.
Supremely talented, his Palace career has been stop/start with injuries/illness - including one sustained on England duty.

I look at this through the prism of a Palace fan and happy for him to get called up when he gets his big move.
It then becomes another club's problem.

its club over country for me. I never want to see an Eagle getting injured on international duty.

Damn, was really hoping he was going to stake his claim tonight.
So are we worried he won't make the plane?
He's clearly number 2, at best. If Tuchel wants to play the current system he probably has no clear rivals behind Anderson but he needs to stay fit and up his game with Palace
I'm getting around to the view that he might be the player to move in the summer, assuming his stock is still high and we have scouted useful replacement options. We have already missed out by not selling players at their peak value: Zaha - by the time we were safe from relegation without him - and Doucoure. Arguably, Guehi as well. Of course, other players e.g. Mateta and Munoz are more likely to be pushing for a move so I expect he will stay

I agree with the general view that he was not dynamic enough. It was clear that when changes took place the whole energy changed in the team. This may or may not have been attributed to Wharton but he certainly did not exude forward play. Tuchel did say he saw him as a player who liked passing and would be useful against a low block team. To be honest he did not demonstrate that quality. He did nothing wrong but nothing outstanding.COYP

Its a shame because wharton will develop into a great player, a proper deep playing playmaker like busquets and pirlo, but I dont rate our midfield at all, I know on paper we look good, 8 wins, 0 goals conceded but rice and bellingham must be 2 of the most overrated English players I can remember. There's no way we're winning the world cup with them 2 in the starting 11.

Another shocker, imo. Rice is top five complete midfielders in the world rn. Bellingham I'm inclined to agree with you a bit more...but he has that X-factor that can provide moments in a cagey tournament game.

Yeah, not his best performance so I feel for the guy… but I’m not particularly disappointed as a Palace fan. I don’t want him to leave in the Summer but when he does go I’d want the stuff that put him in the shop window to benefit Palace, not England in a largely meaningless game.

Tuchel stymied Wharton by telling Stones to move into midfield when we were in possession .Completely congested the middle of the park and made any creativity hopeful at best . As a tactic it was a failure

I dont think the other players trusted Wharton to receive the ball in tight spaces facing his own goal (we know better) he was offering himself but just didn't get anything .

I dont think any of the England players had a good first half .

As mentioned Andersen is in front of Wharton at this time . He looks stronger is more verbal and has a goal in him .Attributes that Adam will improve on I'm sure . His passing ability and quickness of thought will then give him the edge but they are two fine players
