Wharton

I agree about Rice; he's world-class imo.
Known by his teammates at Arsenal as "The Horse" due to his limitless energy.
He has believed that his strongest position is as a No 6 but he has been deployed further forward.
He has numerous qualities which include his reading of the game, his intelligence and his dead-ball delivery.
A footballer of considerable quality.

He is a great passer and reads the game better than anyone but needs to add goals to his game to be a world class player.Every shot he tries seems to be a scuff, hopefully when he eventually scores for us he will get a few more.
Whilst I agree that it would be good to see him get some goals for us, it is also worth pointing out that Rice only got three goals in his first 100 games in the PL. Andersen didn't score any PL goals at Newcastle in over 40 appearances and only has three for Forest.

It is worth pointing that out.

He's a brilliant footballer, potentially world class if not already.

I don't doubt his ability to add goals if that is worked on/requested of him. The England game vs Albania was a poor showing for many and probably didn't lend itself to his attributes. They were very compact on the pitch plus fought doggedly for everything, was a superb physical effort. Adam has a nonchalance in his excellent reading of the game, positioning and delivery, less suited to a physical slugfest in the ar5ehole of Europe versus a team that would barely qualify as 'professional' and in a game which barely qualified as 'competitive'.

He's still very young too. I've no doubt he'll be considered one of the better midfielders in the world, fitness permitting, in years to come.

He is also inexperienced featuring in only 45 games in the top flight.

Agreed.
Rice reads the game well, is a good athlete and competes well physically and in aerial duels.
As a youngster there was some debate at to whether his best position could be as a central defender.
To my mind it's not a valid comparison with Wharton who has a very different skillset.
Wharton is a rarity these days, a throwback, an old fashioned 'schemer ' with good awareness of his teammates' positions around the field and the ability to find them in confined spaces with pinpoint passes of the correct weight.

In theory Rice and Wharton should dovetail well with complementary skils.

As a schoolboy he played at centre-half in the Chelsea academy. He is good friends with Mason Mount whom he played alongside at the academy.

I saw an interview with OG recently who said one of the main reasons we signed Adam was because of his positioning to receive the ball SURROUNDED BY OPPOSITION PLAYERS, and then of course his quick thinking and ability to do something with it

I wonder if the England players just didn't "get" this, so didn't pass to him as he had opposition players near him, which is why he looked a bit "left out"

He will still get his chance I think, but as long as we see the best of him in a Palace shirt, I am fine with that!!

I think it was partly this, but also partly because of the shape of the game.

Albania dropped deep, we pushed up, so Stones ended up taking up a lot of the space Wharton occupies, and often brought the ball forward as wasn't really pressured.

Wharton is far too cool to be running around demanding the ball.

Tuchel's plans which are very sensible is that the 'team' is the whole squad. He starts bringing on 'finishers' from 45-50 mins onwards. Usually using at least five subs per match.
This will be absolutely vital next Summer where we can expect high temperatures in a number of the World Cup locations.
Im sure it is a tactic OG will employ for Palace once we build our squad to a sustainable level.

I hope so! The one thing that infuriates me about OG is not making subs before 88 minutes when it is obvious that some players, eg JP, Kamada, Sarr are knackered at around 70 mins
