I think the wider point is the difficulty in trying to get players with experience who can blend into the first team for the workload of more games in the coming season.
It's neither the 'buy the young promising player' strategy, or the 'buy the top players' strategy or the just the 'buy everyone' strategy. And I think it's the hardest to execute. Last January felt like a 'buy the prem players from a struggling club' strategy, but it just hasn't really worked out yet.
As we are all painfully aware we do need someone who can stick the ball in the net, but sadly Brennan is no Gary Lineker (didn't he get stuck out on the wing in his Barca days?). Don't think McNeil will be either, although he could still be a solid signing for us.
Will Franca be closer to the First XI, I wonder?
