War in the Middle East

Excuse me raising the subject of football in these troubled times. But, with games very soon, I guess the staff at Larnaca and Palace will be asking questions about travel problems, safety etc.Perhaps even more so for Palace going to Cyprus, if there are missiles flying about. Maybe a different venue, if the games can even take place?

They are proxies and Israel have already proven how poor they are,we can debate this endlessly but in two weeks time it will be over the Usa will not want the mid term elections with this going on. The big three European countries are facilitating the Allies, U.K. Germany and France.
I think you are being over optimistic , This war has the potential to rumble on for weeks ..
Regime change is the US goal , I see little sign that is happening .

The war will.be short and Tbe Donald will take all the credit for 'winning,' it.

The fallout will last years as we will continue to see terrorist attacks in the west increase.

And Palace will be eliminated from the Conference League as we will be unable to fly to Cyprus and be fined to missing the match.

Iran will go down fighting and the place will end up in rubble but they will land some decent punches while doing so.
This is America’s and Israel’s war. There is also no intelligence at all that this military strike was time critical.
Having been surfing the US news stations since this started I’m not seeing huge support with your average American and lots of questions being asked.
If Trump wants a quick end to this he and Israel needs to start blanket bombing multiple targets with extreme prejudice and the UK should not be part of it.

Reports gulf states are running short of air defence missiles and US have around 2 weeks worth according to Sky , Think Trump has a conundrum , Do the US build up more forces and Defensive weapons in the gulf or withdraw .
Isreal won’t be happy if US withdraw as they seem to be geared up for the long haul and want US backing , Just like they did with the Palestine conflict .
Iran are surprisingly resilient and they have caused chaos with gas and Oil prices , Shipping and flights , Over 100k Brits stuck in the gulf at least and Cyprus don’t know what to do next .
The US love affair with Trump might be coming to an end ..

It would be a very sad way to achieve a highly desirable outcome.

I am a big admirer of Jeffrey Sachs, who is well connected, greatly respected, hugely experienced and extremely intelligent. He is unafraid to speak truth to power so when I saw he had made an assessment of the US attack on Iran I wanted to watch it. In fact he has made several in recent days, but if you only watch one, watch this one.

It is sobering, worrying and brutally honest. Whatever your politics I urge you to watch it:-

If we ever needed some proof that Iran was an aggressor in the region, the situation you mention would confirm it. It has considerably more attacking capabilities than it does defensive ones.

Trump says Starmer is 'no Winston Churchill' over Iran strikes

👍

He should have let the US use those bases.....other than that I think he's done ok on this.

It's not our war.

But the US have been paying for Nato for eighty years, that's a lot of credit in the bank or should be, but it doesn't mean we have send our guys into foreign wars.

More importantly it’s definitely not NATO’s war and the US expecting support from other members makes no sense at all. Just expecting them to fall in line as some kind of tribute is just typical Trump.

Any war involving the States is going to involve us in some way.

The US haven't paid for the vast majority of Europe's defence for 80 years so that subversives can take it for granted.

This point is way beyond Trump or a particular president.

I don't agree with the war but the US have a right to military loyalties and that includes the use of our bases if needed.....but not our involvement.

Meaningless off the cuff Trumpism.

He will be declaring his unfettered love for Starmer and the Special Relationship before the day is out and forget he even said we were not cooperative.

BTW, do you agree with Trump? Do you think we should be more actively engaged?

How can Iran be the 'aggressor' when Israel and USA attacked them first?

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I have no doubt that their current regime is fairly abhorrent.

But facts still matter.

Because Iran's modus operandi is not conventional warfare. Its global terrorism, which they have been facilitating for decades.
The bottom line is that they will eventually get nukes and then it will be too late.

He's saying what many are thinking. He's right, but he forgets that Churchill had to beg Roosevelt to enter the war which he had also avoided for domestic reasons. It took Pearl Harbour to make it happen, so a bit of irony there also.
