Which is surprising because wan Bissaka was a winger until Richard Shaw had the brain wave of putting him at right back in the under 21’sBoth Mitchell & Wan Bissaka played under Hodgson in the early parts of their first team careers, probably explains why neither are comfortable going forward, admittedly Mitchell has improved under Glasner.

Clyne?😉and make a very positive impression against Arsenal. It would be a shame to block his path with a signing, especially when we have so many other gaps to fill and a limited budget.

Its funny (though has its own logic), but we are like most clubs in that we are more inclined to allow young signings time to develop than youth team graduates. Olise and Eze both showed flashes of high quality from the outset, but also took a long time to be consistent, and to be a constant presence in games. Guehi was good and solid from the outset, but would get beaten on back post crosses quite a bit, for quite a while. Wharton couldn't play more than 60-70 mins, even though he'd been playing every week at Blackburn.I want both Cardines and Imray to have opportunities. I don't like seeing the pathway for our youngsters blocked by having too many proven PL players ahead of them. Both Imray out on loan and Cardines on Sunday have shown that they may well be able to become PL players and I'd rather they became them with us.
The problem, of course, is allowing them time to settle. It took Mitchell time but because there wasn't any other option, he was allowed to make mistakes etc. Too often our youngsters aren't given the opportunity (i.e. a run in the team) unless it's a "needs must" situation as happened with AWB, Mitchell, Devenny and even Ozoh under Hodgson.
