I think it’s fair enough to criticise the petition but not fair enough to criticise the police or local authority for reaching their decision on public safety grounds. Can anyone on here please give me an example of when, foreign fans have been banned from attending a match in the UK. Eastern Europeans known for their racist views? Roma fans known for violence, Dutch fans known for violence. I can’t think of any other petition raised against those fans, happy to be proved wrong
When any team has a history of disturbances following them around, whether their fault or not, it’s not unreasonable to be cautious. Decisions being made solely on objective assessment and not on politics. So just because a team is based in Israel is neither a reason to ban their supporters nor a reason not to.
Would there be this amount of fuss if the police had acted on receiving intelligence that the ultras from Galatasaray were planning to come to the UK for a European game intent on causing havoc?
Why on earth are we even having to consider this? Israel clearly not being in Europe.
