Villa v Maccabi

Perhaps it wouldn’t have been such an issue if the local Muslim run Council had not got up a petition to ban them? That petition had nothing to do with their “previous” it was about who they were. I look forward to regular banning of away fans whoever they are
Worse it was the local MP who was elected on a pro Hamas jew hate ticket. the incumbent Labour muslim of 27 years was out Gaza'd

Yes, aware of the mention of a petition - I’m trying to verify the claim that “That petition had nothing to do with their “previous” it was about who they were”

It’s also unclear to me if the petition had any impact on the decision made by the Safety Advisory Group.
risible IMHO, can't be contra to the muslims

Nonsense. Here's the petition wording, relevant bit in bold. Also no use of the word jew, you might notice.

"On 6 November, Aston Villa are due to host Maccabi Tel Aviv at Villa Park in Birmingham. We are calling on UEFA, the UK Culture Minister, and the club itself to urgently cancel this fixture or take immediate steps to ensure public safety and community harmony.

This is not a normal football match. It cannot be treated as business as usual.

Why action is needed

Ongoing genocide in Gaza: As Israel continues its assault on Gaza, killing thousands and devastating civilian infrastructure, sporting fixtures involving Israeli teams cannot be separated from the wider political context. Hosting such teams sends a message of normalisation and indifference to mass atrocities.

Track record of violence by Maccabi Tel Aviv fans: The club’s supporters have previously caused serious disruption and violence during matches abroad, including clashes and riots in Amsterdam. Their arrival in Aston - a diverse and predominantly Muslim community - poses a real risk of tensions within the community and disorder.

Wider European context: Across Europe, calls are growing to cut cultural and sporting ties with Israel. Ireland has even warned it will boycott Eurovision if Israel is allowed to participate. Sport cannot be an exception when human rights are at stake.

Our demands

We therefore call on the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to protect local communities and uphold ethical sporting standards by doing one of the following:
- Cancel the match entirely, or
- Relocate the match to a neutral third country, or
- Hold the match behind closed doors with no spectators.

At the very least, we call on the relevant authorities to ensure any Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters that have been seen chanting and causing disorder in Amsterdam are prevented from entering the UK and any that do not come are securely bussed in and out under strict coditions, without the chance to gather and roam in Birmingham.

Add your name to demand decisive action before it’s too late. "
Is this a spoof?

So why mention on going genocide and that sporting events cannot be separated from a wider political context,if it was all about their fans behaviour? To me that one statement makes this a political issue not a security one.The real question is would the local MP have raised a petition if any of the other clubs mentioned, were playing at Villa?

Don't move the goalposts now.

You said "That petition had nothing to do with their (Maccabi fans) “previous”"

That's been proven to be completely untrue.

Because, genocide is perfectly reasonable grounds for all Israeli teams to be banned from Europe - like Russian teams are. I don't hear many of you lot bleating about Russias right to participate. Israel shouldn't be playing. Aside from the fact they're not even in Europe ffs....
It's an obvious Public Safety concern, this really isn't rocket science. As someome pointed out loads of other clubs supporters get barred from matches for previous bad behaviour, and nobody complains. This is normal.

IF Maccabi fans didn't have a reputation for violence, disorder, islamophobic and racist chants, then you might have a point about anti-semitism. Unfortunately for you, they do - as perfectly demonstrated by their local derby being called off BY ISRAELI POLICE due to rioting and risk to life. Does that make the Israeli police anti-semitic??!

Both can be true, and both grounds for punishment. The Maccabi fans recent history of violence can be the main reason, with the ongoing genocide, local population demographic and potential for israeli / muslim violence can be an aggravating factor. Tensions are understandably high in the current political climate, so this seems a perfectly reasonable step to take.

Wrong, i have gone on record here to say that, in my humble opinion, Putin is fighting a defensive War against Nato.
When you start banning nasty warmonger nations, you would end up with nobody at all in your football Tournament.

Ok, so let everyone play regardless, is a fair argument - but it's not rooted in reality, or based on any historical precedent. How Israel are currently allowed to is beyond me.

Because we exist in this absurd reality where holding Israel to the same standard as anyone else is considered antisemitic, as evidenced by this entire thread.

You can show numerous examples of other clubs having their fans banned from away games due to crowd troubles, you can highlight that Russian clubs are not even allowed to enter, you can show with an example as recent as YESTERDAY just how real the risk of trouble is with this set of fans, and still the usual suspects just sit there waffling about 'jew hate'.

Eintracht Frankfurt have a game coming up in Naples on 4th November and none of their fans are allowed to attend - this decision was announced by the Italian authorities last month, and there was barely a reaction to be found anywhere. The exact same thing happens to Maccabi, and we have our entire media and political class chiming in with nonsense.

Thousands of British Jewish football fans will have attended football games all over the country this weekend without incident - this ban has f*** all to do with Jewish football fans, and everything to do with Maccabi fans, who have repeatedly shown themselves to be thugs.
