Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
There were a lot of fireworks here last year. Surprisingly, however, it's raining.Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I’m sure the ‘Jew hate’ labellers will be quick to condemn.
Tumbleweed, as expected.
Let’s see if Trump is as gracious in his apologies for using it as Biden was when it was pointed out to him! It's not an uncommon term in America.
Probably not; it's not his usual MO but the word itself is widely used in many countries.Let’s see if Trump is as gracious in his apologies for using it as Biden was when it was pointed out to him!
Assuming he does apologise of course. More likely he will deny, via his constantly lying Press Secretary, that it was ever said.

👍Nothing wrong with the term. It describes a kind of person, usually banker, Shakespeare wrote him as Jewish, but these people are found in every group.
On the right we are less sensitive than you snowflakes on the left.
Of course there will always be those with agendas that want to pretend that words have underlying insidious meanings and are so dangerous.....it's mostly ridiculous.
The idea that Trump is anti semitic is hilarious.
He just comes from an era where people weren't such tarts over language.

This forum would suggest the exact opposite.
Those that throw around ‘Jew hater’ accusations like confetti on the other thread are still very quiet.
Shakespeare wrote him as Jewish for the very good reason that at that time money lenders were Jewish. Not through choice but because they were excluded from many areas of life and were persecuted everywhere. Money lending was often the only way Jews could earn a living.Nothing wrong with the term. Most dictionaries define the term as 'ruthless moneylender' - no mention of being a Jew.Shakespeare wrote him as Jewish for the very good reason that at that time money lenders were Jewish. To describe someone as a Shylock today has unequivocal connotations and is definitely an anti Semitic insult. For Trump to use it so carelessly is unforgivable. He isn’t anti Semitic but that’s no excuse.
Jewish groups think it’s an antisemitic word.

Trump's 'Shylock' comment draws outcry from Jewish groups - BBC News
Trump described some bankers as "Shylocks" at a rally. He said later he did not realise it was antisemitic.www.bbc.co.uk
So what?
I've no doubt that they would also regard your views on Gaza as anti semitic, so if they think that do you agree you're anti semitic?
Again, stop the word slop, no one regards Trump as anti semitic so if he wants to use shylock to mean a dodgy banker, I doubt anyone sensible has a problem with it.
The dictionaries may well be exercising caution. It’s fair to say that opinion is divided but Trump using it was very careless of him. Especially at this time. Most dictionaries define the term as 'ruthless moneylender' - no mention of being a Jew.

This seems a reasonable analysis:-
