US Politics

It's irrelevant what you think – he won a democratic vote by a good margin. Unless you don't believe in democracy?
Did all those who voted for him expect him to do all that he is doing?

They were promised lower prices. Not higher ones and the threat of even greater increases. They were promised he would end wars on day 1. They weren’t promised large scale sackings and the threats to universities.

Some don’t care but many do and are suffering buyers regret. He got there democratically which his opponents accepted without argument. Unlike him 4 years earlier. So the country will have to live with it unless he steps so far out of line that the Republicans in Congress decide their own futures are so imperilled they back another impeachment. The downside of which though would mean they get Vance.

Unlike many other politicians, he is doing exactly what he said he would. He's always spoken about tariffs! And voters have always had an appetite for slashing the deep state and corrupt universities who have no free speech.

Just because YOU don't like it, it doesn't matter. It's the American people who have made that choice. What the next few years brings, nobody knows.

Yep he was. You hold on to that fact because from his performance on the economy so far , that’s all you’ve got.
Now he’s lining up Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell to take the blame. Calling him a “loser” in one of his increasingly demented social media rants. Real class.

Wow! 6 percent! It's gone up 500 percent in the last 5 years 🤣 maybe it will go back up when the markets reopen in the morning. 🤷🏻‍♂️

6 percent is just market noise and is nothing for a company that is revolutionising energy and transport. Musk's track record proves he thrives under pressure and that bankruptcy is a fantasy. Trump’s push for deregulation will let visionaries like Musk soar.

The democrats had Musk and they threw him away. No one to blame but themselves and their woke mind virus.

Anyways TDS with MDS really is not healthy at all.
6% in a single day is a big deal. That’s 6% of the current valuation, not the one 5 years ago. It’s far from just market noise. It’s a big sell off.

Tesla have been a pioneer. No doubt of that. Things though can and are changing fast. They are no longer the biggest maker of electric cars in the world and that happened before the tariff war started. The Chinese have quietly taken over having heavily invested in battery technology in the past 20 years. Now they are also building vehicles of every kind.

The latest Chinese batteries are a major advance, as they don’t need replacing after a few years. So good in fact that Tesla are now using them in one of their latest models. The Chinese are canny. They are ignoring the US market and concentrating elsewhere for their own brands whilst sub contracting manufacturing for some US and European brands.

Tesla technology has fast become outdated. It may not yet be apparent but the signs are there. On top of that the Chinese control the market for the rare earth materials which the batteries need. They could turn off the taps anytime.

It’s why Trump and his crew are so worried but this is a battle in which the Chinese hold all the aces.

He is doing what those behind Project 2025 are telling him to do. Remember him saying he had never heard of Project 2025.

The American people were told that tariffs would bring down prices and create jobs at home. Jobs for which there aren’t the skilled workers available. Jobs that won’t be created whilst economic uncertainty exists and interest rates are high. The American people voted for him to create prosperity. Not to create a recession.

You can argue that was their choice so what happens is their fault. What you cannot argue is that they will be happy about it. Or in the end to tolerate it.

The “deep state” is just right wing slang for responsible government and non governmental institutions who try to ensure stability. The idea of universities, like Harvard, being corrupt is an insult to their long established history of excellence and achievement. It’s just untrue. The last thing the USA, or the world, needs, is political interference in what they do.

Funny isn’t it, this Labour government are making a mess of many things but we are told “ they’ve only been in power for 8 months and were left a mess by the Tories”. Trump has been in 4 months, perhaps give him time to see if he is proven to be right. If not, unleash your Trump fury by all means, If so, would you ever admit he was correct? 🤔

The difference is Trump has caused more chaos in his 4 months than he did in his previous 4 year term.
Trump won't be right. But of course his die hards will blame anyone else when the sh1t hits the fan.

Trump’s policies are pushing hard for U.S. mining and supply chain control, cutting reliance on China. It's all part of the master plan of tariffs. It is leveling the playing field, protecting innovators like Tesla from China’s cheap knockoffs.

But you see... There's a "22 billion pound" black hole labour have to fill 😯

Causing chaos 🤦🏻‍♂️ Impeach him!

You judge an economy after 1, 2, 4 years. Not in a matter of months.

Trump will continue to be compared with whoever is appropriate of that a I am sure.

It’s not simply deciding not to buy a Tesla that’s emerging as the protests. It’s all things American. Tourism is down too. Both ways. People are deciding not to go there and American tourists are feeling uncomfortable abroad. This will last until the Trump era fades into the past.

Whether you think it’s ridiculous or not hardly matters. Others don’t. They feel disgusted at what has happened and want no part of it.
OK, if you think it's acceptable to compare someone with a dictator responsible for the deaths of 75,000,000 people just because you don't like him.
America will survive without overly precious tourists stamping their feet because an election didn't go the way they wanted.

Yeah requires patience. Not something Americans are known for, especially after his promises.

Just wait until the inflationary effect of Chinese import tariffs filter through.

I get the idea, attract industry back to the US. Even if his hairbrained scheme started working you'd see no benefits for 10 years let alone 4. The skills required are no longer there. Industry is becoming ever more automated so fewer jobs anyway.

Maybe he'll open a mine or two.

Now the dollar and Govt Bonds are wobbling.

The future's bright though, yeah right.

At the end of WW2 the USA could reasonably claim to be 'great' top dog in the world really.

FDR who died just before the end brought the US through from depression and protectionism to the forefront.

His policies the 'square deal' quite interventionist about as near socialist as they could be over there.

Here's a short of Ronald Reagan on the tariff issue:-

Ok then Steely.

So why do tariffs work for China and the EU?

European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) uses tariffs to protect its farmers....The French especially benefit from it.

I don't know if you trade stocks at all, but this is a really poor analysis - Tesla's price has been steadily dropping for a while now, and is down nearly 11% in the last week - currently trading at 227.50 versus a high around 480 in December.

Their Q1 sales are due to be published today and by all accounts it does not make pretty reading with sales way down, particularly in Europe where Musk is very unpopular.

On top of that, Chinese competition in the EV space is improving all of the time.

Tesla have some interesting product ideas down the line, but a bad track record of meeting their own deadlines on these sort of things - long term they may recover, but the short term doesn't look rosy at all. Expect the share price has a way to drop yet.

Tesla, don't do DEI nor care about some of the ruinous ideologies that other companies have followed for the last decade. It's enabled them to hover up some of the smartest young minds in America. This dip in their fortunes if built almost entirely upon emotional politic feeling. The products to come will ensure that the sensible will be making a lot of money long term.

Musk is obviously not popular with most of the left wing around the world....though I think the left wing are responsible for most human decline in the west....which is why China is such an economic beast rivaling it (again, doesn't follow stupid self harming social policies).

Despite this Musk has achieved, in practical terms, probably more in his lifetime to help the human race than the combined efforts of all his critics....certainly most of them. When he was on the left they were treating him like a king.

But they encouraged his son to go trans and.....Well, that one thing might be the butterfly effect that ends their hegemony.

I'm not really sure what this has to do with my post on Tesla's flailing share price, but sure...

Musk is unpopular outside of the US, it's not really specific to left-wingers - your average middle-England conservative is not generally a fan either.

You have a lot more admiration for Musk's 'achievements' than I do, but I certainly don't recall him ever being 'treated like a king' until he became Trump's little side kick.
