I have no idea where these assertions come from. I could make an educated guess, but would be happy to learn the actual source. This seems, at first sight, just another part of the campaign by the right to discredit all those who disagree with them.

In the meantime and picking just one at random, here is some information about Mich McConnell:-

The concerns have nothing to do with uncovering corruption or improving efficiency. Everyone supports the need for effective auditing and internal oversight.

It’s the blanket cancellation of swathes of government functions preceded by the sacking of the various department oversight officers charged with ensuring good practice.

Throwing out a few assertions of stupidity as red meat tidbits to feed the prejudices of the masses doesn’t justify doing this. It’s stupidity on an unprecedented scale. Carnage of public service being undertaken on an altar of ideology. Not through a process of detailed analysis.

It’s suicidal. As services collapse it will come back to haunt the USA. Worse than that, people who depend on aid will die and the vacuum that’s being created will be filled by China.
A new broom sweeps clean!
This is the way to clean it up. Some will be reinstated as a necessary payment.
The ones that totally took the piss and cost billions won’t be.
It will take longer and be harder to cherry pick certain things. This way it is a real investigation.
If you ever was poor the way to sort your finances is to cancel every direct debit and standing order. As the letters and calls come me in you can clean up your accounts. I’ve done it !

Gabbard confirmed as Director of National Intelligence.....heading up the CIA amongst others.

Very pleased.

Lots of positive stuff happening. But just need Bannon involved. If he becomes part of the very heart of it, then we might really, really have something.

The Gaza stuff left me more than a little despondent, and still fear the old forces are directing things but Bannon would restore my faith.

Bannon and Tucker. They truly are our people.

John Bolton used to one of “your” people. He certainly was one of Trump’s and a known foreign policy hawk.

He though has Trump’s number now and is very clear about the danger he, and the people around him, represent. This interview with Times Radio is very informative:-

You might want to listen to another Times Radio interview with David Cay Johnson, who knows Trump very well. This is more about his character and motivation than about his current actions:-

Everyone needs to wake up and stop this fantasy that Trump is some kind of visionary able to reset the USA and restore it by using its economic strength to get what he wants. He isn’t. He is a sick man.

He isn’t sweeping clean though!

He is sweeping dirty. Using over the top methods that aren’t cleaning out waste but destroying the infrastructure of vital services that the country needs and relies on.

Deciding to pay your bills individually and after an examination can be a good, if time consuming, tactic. Deciding not to pay them at all by cancelling the contracts is another matter entirely. It’s as if you decided to cancel your gas, electricity and water supplies at home. It would save money, but you would soon be cold, dirty and surrounded by angry people.

It’s ideology replacing common sense.

Trump doesn’t care. He won’t prepare or remember. He will just react. Starmer needs to bring some simple ideas which appear capable of being presented by Trump as a win for him. Playing Trump off against his ego is the only way to achieve anything with him. You just need to be smarter. Which ought not be difficult. Others manage it.

Donald Trump has issued an executive order to withdraw aid from South Africa. This is largely in reaction to the shambolic South African government’s implementation of the Expropriation Act in January.
The Act allows the state to seize private property without compensation – the ANC say it will “redress the results of past racial discrimination” and “undo the legacy of apartheid” (among other platitudes). The approach is very similar to the ‘land reform’ laws in Zimbabwe when the lunatic Marxist, Robert Mugabe (greatly admired by Comrade Steeleye) seized thousands of white-owned farms with 780,000 black farm workers losing the homes and jobs, leaving them destitute.
How many farms will be left to seize in South Africa is unclear as the racist genocide against white owners continues apace with old people tortured and infants chopped to pieces.
Meanwhile, the ANC leaders are sumptuously rich, presiding over mass unemployment of 42% and 25% of children undernourished. Many South Africans must be looking back on white rule as a golden age in comparison.

You can always rely upon the Democrats for some top cringe when it comes to anything Trump.

Here is the latest assortment of old liberal women and old soy boys coming together to sing a protest song. Leave all expectations of standards behind (pretty much expected with Democrats anyway)

Remarkable isn’t it?

With Trump’s daily stupidity dominating the news the usual suspects here ignore it to post yet another ridiculous jibe at the “Democrats”. Poking fun at Trump is the absolute minimum he deserves at the moment.

The really laughable thing that has emerged in the last 24 hours is the news that they are scrambling to rehire workers they sacked a few days ago. These being the guys that ensure safety at nuclear establishments. Without them the sites cannot function. However they also destroyed the records so don’t know how to get in touch so are trying to trace their private emails.

Well done Elon and Donald. Great work. Maybe Elon can post a request on X!

'Go home, Yankee Yankee go home'

From your best friend and neighbour, Canada.

😎
I must admit how the Canada/Mexico tariff situation resolves itself will be fascinating.

Personally, I think Canada will fold like a wet blanket......their economy is so dependent it's not even funny.

At least the Mexicans are use to being poor anyway.

You’ve never been an ambassador or a diplomat and have a very poor grasp on UK policies, let alone US ones!

I know you seem to be a self appointed ‘expert’ on anything & everything but what on earth makes you think that you are in any way qualified to advise our Prime Minister how to deal with and negotiate with The President of the United States?!

Short term pragmatism is very different to long term damage.

Canada’s trust in, and respect for, the USA will have been severely damaged by this bullying. They will now be looking for new partners in Europe and Asia.

I hear Tesla sales are on the slide everywhere because of their association with Musk. It might be just emotional but it’s also understandable and very damaging.

“Making America unpopular again” isn’t such a catchy slogan, but it’s more accurate.

Why bother to engage with the "expert"?
The ignore button is wonderful

Very true but I see it less as engaging and more as correcting his deluded (and often inaccurate and misleading) posts.

Most of his stuff is just boring waffle that is very misguided but he also strays into territory that he has very little idea about and yet still tries to post as if he is some sort of expert on it. That’s when some sort of reality or factual accuracy needs to be brought in.

Good luck with that, his delusions cannot be corrected, his opinions are facts. If he were ignored he would fade away
