Complete and utter bs! Of course it’s about Trump but there is no hypocrisy involved in welcoming anything that helps to counter the effect of this man. Religious or not.

The Pope is regarded by Catholics as their saviour’s representative on earth. Not mine or yours for sure but by a huge constituency of important voters. That matters.

The Pope has no political position. That the Church he represents cares about the poor doesn’t make him a leftist! What a nonsensical idea.

I am pleased to see him speaking out. Not just to Catholics but to all Christians and those of us whose moral grounding was founded on Christian belief. Pointing out the need to stand up to, and call out, immorality is showing leadership.

I hope the Christians in US politics pause for thought. Vance has just converted to Catholicism. How he reacts will be telling.

I didn't hear the oh so moral Pope criticising the murder of Christians in Africa or the killing of forty thousand Iranians just for wanting a new government.

As to the way the Iranian regime responded to protesters Popes have criticised the regime but I suspect they think long and hard before doing so, to avoid making things worse. Quiet diplomacy at meetings between faith leaders may be seen as more productive than worldwide headlines. Which isn’t the case with Trump.
