US Politics

If he gets in he will start up the greasy pole. It’s all a front because corruption is rife in all institutions, on all sides, it’s how the world works.
Did you watch the interviews or are you just making a generalisation?

If the latter do actually watch them and see if your opinion changes.

Thatcher wasn’t for turning. Nor is this guy.

This is a good post and accurate in my book. Thanks for sharing your perspective.
My brother lives in the States, and he travels all over it regularly. Accepted he doesn't hang out in the worst places I'm sure, but he says he doesn't recognise the very negative picture presented in the daily news.

American society is not crumbling this week, according to him at least.

Is your brother that naive? 🤣

When did I ever suggest that? I consistently said he ought not stand for a second term and that his delay in realising that was a big mistake. Not because he was necessarily unfit but at his age the pressures of the job are simply too much. He was showing infirmity in his walking and was never a natural orator but his mind was still sharp. More importantly he was supported by a proper team who knew what they were doing.

My argument was always in comparison to Trump. Someone I have always regarded as unfit to serve in any kind of official capacity, and still do. What I said was that even Mickey Mouse would be better, because he would not do any harm whilst others took the real decisions.
Oh dear 🤣

I replied to your post and generalised on your comments. I don’t need to watch it at all. Once he’s in he might genuinely want to change the system but metaphorically he will end up with his bollox cut off and shoved in his mouth.
The system is corrupt, everyone knows it, look at the Sudanese in Minneapolis, or the immigration here. A non corrupt system wouldn’t suffer that and the literal endless list we all know and read about, not just immigration so credit to him but unless he likes sleeping with horse heads he will need to STFU.

As someone who has lived in the US for a couple of decades I do find this banter as amusing.

Mainstream and social media (enhanced by AI) shape everything we see, hear and define the narrative that suits them best.

It’s the case of the looney one percents on both sides that create 99% of the chaos.

I don’t live in a downtown sanctuary city or rural mid west heartlands BUT I can categorically state I, my family, my friends have experienced nothing of what the media wants to peddle these days.

I’m sure my experiences are similar to the majority of Americans and to be honest life is fantastic here in the US despite what people want to portray.

Right now I can’t see anything but another “red wave” when all the posturing is over come 2028. There is plenty of time for things to change but despite everything all I see is the majority of Americans are happy with life and overall direction from the government.

Just my thoughts so not as accurate as other well known posters!
I was reading that the midterms in November will be fairly unique in respect of timings i.e. not at the same time as the presidential.

I was wondering if I'm understanding that correctly?

I think they are the equivalent to our council elections (the timing I mean). Voters often use Mid terms to give the President / ruling party a bloody nose by voting for the other party or independents.

However like our GE when it comes to Presidential elections people revert to form.

In this country the Greens do quite well except at the GE as they are used as a protest vote.

At least they haven’t been cancelled, like mine have, for the second year running

As usual your ‘free speech’ double standards are off the charts.

Except they aren't.

It's also some cheek when someone who supports anti free speech politics, talking about 'consequences', then complains when his very attitude is applied to his own side.

The irony is almost delicious.

Are you aware of the charges Dan?

Do you actually know what free speech is and isn't?

Absolutely delicious when you prove your double standards over and over again.

The charges got rejected, twice, by the usual means and had to get forced through by the WH.

And we all know what type of regime starts arresting journalists, don’t we?

Kier’s new found buddies? Indeed I’m sure Kier would given the chance 😂

So I have double standards even though I haven't even commented on this arrest?

Also we note that you are ignoring the fact that you agree with restrictions on speech that offends some demographic....You having written on here multiple times that you support 'consequences' for offending speech.

Yet when this is applied against people you support then suddenly you're up in arms?

So you're a hyprocrite Dan.

My opinion on offensive speech is nowhere near as high as yours. Lemon should be free to air his awful opinions....and indeed is and has been doing that. However, when you stop others airing theirs, as his ambush group did....then the equation changes.

As for Judges? Well today they are either biased towards one side or the other, so the WH finding a judge who supports their aims is just normal.

Don Lemon ambushed a Church service and turned it into his tirade against ICE. What on earth has that got to do with free speech? He actually stopped their free speech by ending their service....a cowardly soft target.

Nevertheless I don't expect much to come of this because it was non-violent and didn't involve anything physical.....as far as I'm aware.

A slap on the wrist and a warning for me.

Really you must be taking the advice to take precautions, be aware of your surroundings, and do not go out at night! The land of the free.......

🙂

If you listened to him he understands all of that, recognises it must be changed but that there are powerful forces that will resist. None so powerful though as the will of the people. He likens the task to that faced by the civil rights movement and sees the solution as coming from the same source.

He doesn’t regard this as a left/right issue at all but a top/bottom one. He is standing as a Democrat but is as critical of their top leadership as he is as of Republicans.

Every so often someone emerges who fills a void with reason and inspires. Not just follows tribal lines. I think this guy could prove to be one but, of course, I could be wrong. Not because he would change his song once in power. Of that I am certain. He is obviously totally committed to his faith and what it means to him. He could just be rejected by the deep divisions. He has many hurdles to jump, the first being selected as the Democratic candidate and then winning a Senate seat for them. In Texas! If he can do that then he will surely be on the way.

I get the feeling he will do both and then be chosen to be Newsom’s VP in 2028, again in 2032 and will be elected President in 2036. Joe Rogan who, whether you like him or not, is extremely popular and influential, likes him and has encouraged him to run for President.

Not really. The House representatives sit for 2 years. The elections coincide with the Presidential election and then all the seats are vacated and refilled at the midterms.

Senators serve for 6 years, but are divided into 3 groups with elections happening alongside the Presidential and at the midterm. Thus ensuring some continuity.

So all the House seats are in play, but only around 1/3rd of the Senate. The mid terms can have significant consequences.

He has a responsibility to his followers to not stoke this. He should not have done what he did because of this position he has. Don’t you remember the people sent down here for actual tweets?

At least you’ve shown your hypocritical mental gymnastic workings here for all to see, fair play.

They know there’s no charge that will stick - it’s all a show to try and intimidate other journalists from reporting on what is going on.
