US Politics

And yet the referendum was not democracy because politicians didn't do their jobs.
You didn't want any delegates then did you.

Your posts are an endless stream of contradictory codswallop.
You are talking bs. Again.

No referendum held in the UK delegates anything to anyone. They don’t have a status so can only ever be advisory. Only Parliament can act, which they did by triggering Article 50. The mistake with the Brexit one was political. Cameron made a commitment to honour the result which the Tory Party regarded as too politically sensitive to be ignored. But it could, and should, have been ignored because the circumstances had changed so profoundly.

Brexit was not a mistake. It doesn't matter how many times you say otherwise.

There is no point in arguing with obsessives, and I've wasted enough time already.

It was almost 10 years ago. Some people just can't let go.

Just look at the Cornwall result 😉

Take out Wales and Scotland and it wasn't even close.

Cornwall would vote to be separate from Britain if it could, but Pasty boy wants to be in Europe.

You can respond as much as you like. Or not. So though can I.

We haven’t been discussing whether Brexit was a mistake, or not, which will always be a matter of opinion, but whether it was the referendum that caused it.

You have obviously run out of arguments because it obviously wasn’t the referendum, but Parliament triggering Article 50, which actually led to us leaving. My point has therefore been conclusively made. Parliament always had the control and as our elected representatives the duty to decide. As a body they were always in favour of remaining a member and when it became so clear and obvious that not only had the referendum campaigns been compromised by outside interference, but that the terms negotiated were not what was either promised or expected, they ought to have done their duty, and refused to go ahead.

They didn’t. The Tories bottled it because of the fear of the backlash on them from Farage. Now look where that has left them, and us.

This was a complete failure of our political system which history will doubtless be scathing about. Cameron and Johnson will have their names etched in infamy.

Completely beside the point.

The way people voted on that day has never been, and is not, in dispute or part of the argument. The referendum vote was won by 52:48. The argument is both whether it should have been held and, more importantly, what Parliament ought to have done later.

If the result had been 52:48 in favour of remaining, you would be saying the people have spoken and we must respect their vote and never again seek to leave.

A positive step forward towards voter ID in the US
Big deal. The responsibility for the way elections are run is with each individual State. As mandated in the constitution. So the only way to change that is via an amendment. That would require a super majority in the Senate and then the approval of the States themselves.

It would not pass the Senate!

However, Fox also published this today. It shows that Trump’s control over the GOP is slipping even if the threats he uses aren’t:-

I doubt that very much. Recognition as more than just another County perhaps, which has already happened, but not even the same status as Wales or Scotland. They wouldn’t want the cost burden and are quite happy to delegate most responsibility for administrative details.

No, I just won't further waste my time arguing with an obsessive about technical points when there are so many better or important things to think about.

A "Female in a dress" according to Canadian police and multiple media outlets....

Doesn't the Canadian PM have a son pretending to be a woman as well?
only in the last week , i have heard the word 'Transphobic' being thrown about a lot. A new crime for all of us to fear getting done for.
You scoff or laugh at Giant Haystacks in a dress ? that's a 'non crime hate incident'.....off to the Gulags with ya.

When a Brexiteer describes the way our democracy functions as “technical points” you know they not only have run out of arguments they have lost the argument.
It amuses me to squabble with you occasionally Wisbech.
I know you have an inflated opinion of your debating skills, but don't get above yourself.

You don't matter.
