Tyrick Mitchell

Interesting piece, but as you say eagleman, it's unlikely he'll (be allowed to) make any move mid term, let alone to a country far from home.

He seems a likeable, but shy and reserved chap so a transfer to Turkey would be difficult for him to cope with psychologically.

A player who gets a lot of criticism and some of it unjustified in my opinion. A very good defensive left back. Clearly not really a wing back but not his fault he’s playing in a system that doesn’t play to his strengths. Always gives his best.

It's a nut house!

Didn't Wilf have a lit flair chucked at his face as a mark of their love and respect?

The club seemed to decide years ago that we can play with no left back, so it's hardly surprising.

Or that it's a position which deserves no real attention.

Allardyce brought in PvA and Schlupp as part of the rescue package, then Mitchell was seen as adequate enough to fill that gap without further question.

I'm loathed to criticise Tyrick for a number of reasons however if we did invest there, I'd see it as appropriate and wouldn't envisage him working his way back into the fold.

'We could do/do with better' - I agree. 'TM is awful' - I disagree.

Good post. As has already been said, if OG reverts to a back 4, TM is a shoe-in, if not, we need a proper LWB.

This is very fair. Either way we need some depth there which we don’t have. If Mitchell gets injured we have are having to play someone out of position

To my mind Tyrick is a very decent left back for Palace (decent mid-table standard), but is clearly lacking as a wing-back. Was somewhat gobsmacked when he was selected for England however - he's certainly not at that standard.

He'd be fine in a back four but as a LWB he's nowhere near good enough.

PVA was mentioned earlier in the thread and ironically he's the exact opposite, was completely unsuited to a Hodgson back 4 but would be class in this system.

We really should be renewing his contract unless we're genuinely buying a decent left wing back early in the window. We don't seem to have managed it any other window - despite being obviously short in that position. I like Mitchell - tries hard, plays every game without ever quite looking completely exhausted. Noticed he has good stats so when clubs use a stats based scouting system he probably pops up pretty quickly. He's not as bad as some make out but he's also not brilliant. I think he would improve with a bit of rotation/competition.
