Tyrick Mitchell

We should be renewing it either way as he's a saleable asset but I think his future at the club is very much entwined with Glasner's. If we persevere with wing backs I just think we need a specialist who is closer to Munoz. If we're going to sack him and bring in Moyes or similar then he could be a key player. I just think it's unfair to keep asking him to get into attacking positions, where he doesn't offer much, leaving him out of position to defend on the left, where he'd thrive.

The crux of it surely.

He doesn’t work particularly well in OG’s setup. That’s not to say he’s useless ‘full stop’, just that he’s not an OG style wing-back.

Playing wing back definitely hasn't suited him, but even if we switched to 4 at the back you'd still expect him to overlap and provide additional attacking threat on the left. He needs to keep working at his game to improve on the parts that he struggles with. He's only in the side because he's left footed and gives us that balance. A right footed Mitchell is probably playing in the Championship if he's lucky.

Schlupp should be more suited to the role but something very odd is going on with him. His form and fitness have tailed off dramatically. With all the injury problems we've recently had he still doesn't get in the starting 11.

I'm wondering whether we can convert Devenney into a left wing back. He certainly looks comfortable in possession. Just need to see what he's like defending.

Either way there needs to be a bit more competition for Mitchell. At the moment he is coasting through games with no concerns he's going to lose his place.

If we bought a LWB and sold Guehi then do you think Mitchell could play on the left of the back 3?

An interesting thought but no. He’s not that good in the air and I’d put Richard’s ahead of him.
Thanks for your response Roy, I’m not saying you’re wrong at all, but it’s something that I’ve been thinking about for a while now (as the possibility of MG leaving in Jan becomes more realistic with every point we drop)
Would you really rather the right footed Richards on the left of a back 3 over a natural left footer?
In regards to his lack of aerial prowess… Clyne has never been known for that either, yet I think we would all admit that he’s done surprisingly well on the other side of the back 3 when played there.
