If it’s a big increase in NATO presence on the island but no incorporation into the USA, no invasion etc, then why did we have go through this whole charade?

Let’s hope, whatever spin Trump and his pet broadcaster put on it, this is Trump backing down.

Rutte cannot even commit NATO, let alone Greenland or Denmark, so any deal involving NATO can only realistically mean that common sense is about to prevail and there will now be the strengthening of military bases in Greenland run by the USA under a NATO banner.

It was typical trump negotiating tactics. He's done it a lot lately. He might also have been having a bit of fun with the EU leaders too 🤭

I'm sure the US will now get somthing of a good deal. Minerals, oil, larger US base etc.... which is what he probably wanted in the first place.

In my opinion it's just typical trump wallstreet negotiation tactics. Seen it time and time again.
Go big, rock the boat and then get what he really wants. And we shall soon find that out.

All of which was openly available and easily negotiated.

Greenland\Denmark welcome investment and security guarantees. They can issue licences and agree concessions. Deals they can be relied upon to honour.

Because Western leaders need to sell the increase in military spending to their populations, along with maybe even introducing conscription, because now we have a threat from both the West and the East.

The entire thing, just pure panto.

I wouldn't let any son of mine be a fighting man for pride parades, mass immigration and DEI.

The middle class love this system so much, let them sign up and fight for it.
Just as they want the immigrants so much then let them earn a place on the battlefield.

The New York Times reports the US-Greenland deal will be similar to that of the UK-Cyprus agreement.

US, Danish and NATO officials are in discussions to build a framework in which small pockets of Greenland would be granted US sovereignty. The US would be able to build and operate military infrastructure at these sites, in a similar way the UK operates two sites on Cyprus.
