Trump announces plan to hit UK, Denmark and other European countries with extra tariffs over Greenland

It could all just be smoke and mirrors. We have seen before with the threat of tariffs the deals Trump has gotten from different countries.

Maybe getting everyone's attention to Greenland while with the other hand does somthing else. It's a typical trump tactic. Maybe he gets a deal with Russia while the EU take their eye off and are busy with Greenland? 🤷‍♂️ (Obviously I don't know just throwing it out there)

I guess we will have to wait and see how it all pans out.
 
To understand trump you have to understand just how vain glorious the man is ,he will not be content until he wins the Nobel Peace Prize and is added to Mount Rushmore, Presidents are chiseled onto the mountain when they add a tract of land to America so you see the Greenland issue for what it truly is plus they are oil and mineral rich the ONLY country that has cryolite which has many uses.We are dealing with a megalomaniac who feels unfettered by convention, reasonable behaviour or restraint.

It was Thatcher who identified the core leaders of the EU as all being 'very weak'. And she was correct. The EU are all talk and bluster. When anybody Powerful stands up to them, they fold. Time and again.

Love it or hate it. Trump will be making Greenland a 'Protectorate of the US'.....halfway to becoming a full State with a Star on the Flag. We saw something similar with Hawaii & Alaska.
Greenland being Danish was always an anachronism. How will they defend their Empire ? by lobbing herring and cheese over the parapet walls ? The last time the Danes were scary was Lindisfarne - and with his bible in hand, Trump is giving them some payback.

How bout some respect to the Danish soldiers who died when the US invoked article 5 for the highly successful war in Irak

I would certainly agree with the US having played a deliberate part in that demise....those who know the history know it.....Powell was very clear about this himself in his criticism of our demise and loss of influence in the world.

We never needed to hear from the Americans on it.....Just listen to those politicians who were always honest, whether we liked them or not.....Powell and Benn come to mind as two who would always tell you the truth on how they saw it with no lobby group or political leader able to shut them up.

Agreed.

However Trump never supported that war.....But I agree with this general point.

Threatening an article five nation with military action is way way way beyond the pale.

Like I said, I view it as waffle, as if this occurred the outcomes are seismic for US influence in the west and would mean Trump would have to stop the Democrats getting elected via any means.

So I just don't see it.......And Denmark should resist this and be backed up by Nato nations.

The US already have the deal in place to create Greenland as a 'protectorate'.

It's absolutely nothing to do with that.

It's entirely to do with Trump wanting to steal their mineral wealth......same as with Ukraine.....though anyone with brains understands how risky the latter would be.
