Trevoh Chalobah

In my opinion no one will be interested in him at that sort of money. I’m a bit surprised you use the expression, ‘impressive performance’ for England. Personally, I thought he was pretty dreadful, but then again so was everyone else.

Wanting big money for a no better than average player is a typical big teams ploy in the marketplace. We should be nowhere near it as there are better players out there for less. We already proved that with Lacroix.
Lacroix and Munoz are freaks in the nicest way. To get 2 players of their quality for what 30 million ish at the same time. Wow how many teams can get that lucky 😀

he will definitely now be valued at higher than £25m.

The previous few seasons he has had a number of injuries and been in and out the Chelsea side. Last season he did ok with us 1st half of the season and played most games in the 2nd half with Chelsea pretty much injury free since September.

He capped the season by winning silverware with Chelsea and making an impressive England debut.

So i think they will be asking for a minimum of £35m for him if they consider selling him.

You are probably right.

However, they didn't want him last season. Cant believe he's integral to the long term plan. They will sign a few more CBs, and he'll be back with Ben training with he kids.

IMO this is a plan for other targets situation, come the end of the window Chelsea may soften.

If the deal is right I suspect Chalobah would prefer to sign for us. The question for Chelsea is how long can they keep a player, they don't want, on their books before economically it doesn't make sense.

Hopefully the bean counters will tell them to drop the price to around £15m.

Another posted pointed out that Lacroix and Munoz were absolute bargains (correct) but we cannot expect to do that season after season. So we may have to pay more for some players than we would want.

True but according to Capology he's got until 2028 on his 6 year contract and they're "only" paying him £50,000 a week. By their standards he's a pretty cheap back up.

Let's hope he tells Chelsea he wants to leave. It can't be a nice situation they treat him poorly after dragging him back from a club where he was enjoying his football and getting plaudits.

i agree i wouldn't pay more than £25m for him and thought he was quite average in a few games for us, however, Chelsea can value him at whatever they want and they are quite good at getting decent prices for players who barely feature - £37m for Maatsen etc.

For England he looked a lot better than his partner Levi Colwill and appeared to play ok in a terrible team performance IMHO. Being an international will only increase his value, surely we can agree on that.

The issue with Chalobah is that he has a mistake in him every match. He was largely responsible for Chris Wood's goal against us in the first half of the season and made a couple of other clangers. He even made a mistake against Senegal leading to a goal.

Almost every center back will make a few mistakes in a season (LeCroix made at least 2 I can think of), but he seems to make a few more than the rest.

He somewhat makes up for it with his ability to head the ball, both defensively and on set plays.

Overall I agree with most people here. At most I think he's worth 20 million maybe with incentives pushing it to 25 (if he hits them it should mean he's worked his way into a starting position). If his wages are on 70k that seems reasonable.

Otherwise if they want 35 million for him, let him rot on the bench, or get loaned to Strausberg along with Mudryk, Chillwell, Sterling, etc.

out of interest what goal was he at fault for?

First was surely Walker ball watching like a school boy, 2nd Lewis-Skelly and Gibbs White all over the place (and maybe Hendo could have done better) and 3rd was a breakaway after Jones stupidly lost the ball.

Not sure what Chalobah could have done to prevent any of them IMHO.

I liked big Trev and certainly think we could do a lot worse.

I'd never endorse paying over the odds, especially to the likes of Chelsea, but I'd certainly welcome his return. He had a bit of a goal threat too which is always a big plus.

I think the poster may be referring to the fact that Chalobah failed to stop the cross for the first Senegal goal.

He's not good enough. That is why Chelsea have been trying to sell him for ages.

We can do better for less money.

Have a bit of a best track record of letting potential superstars go too early, De Bruyne, Salah, Guehi, Rudiger. and to a lesser extent, Solanke, Ake,
Yeah, but he isn't as good as any of them. He makes too many mistakes and Chelsea will want a load of money.

There must be better options.

I tend to agree with this. Happy with Chalobah as a squad CH at a reasonable price but in no way would he ever be a satisfactory Guehi replacement, there are much better players out there.
