Trevoh Chalobah

I did wonder whether he might struggle back at Chelsea.

He was going from a back 3 with 2 wing backs, to a more traditional 4. Perhaps he suited to playing as part of 3 rather than just centre back pairing.
It may also take a few games to re-adjust from a 3 to a 4 and get to know his team mates, something he hasn't been given the chance to do.

At Palace he was shaky for his first few games but I thought he was getting better and better so was disappointed when he was recalled.

I think a swap deal (Guehi) + money would poss be the best option for both parties.

There's a 20% sell on fee for Guehi (supposedly) so we're losing at least £10m on any offer (if we get offers above £50m for him). I think we've accepted that he'll leave in the summer as he'll be in the last year of his contract, so we will need a replacement CB.

Chalobah is not as good as Guehi, but has advantages over trying to find another CB. He's a good Premier League CB, still young, already knows the team & setup here and therefore would settle quickly. Essentially, we know what we'll get from him and I still suspect that there was more to come from him when he was in our team. It's waste of talent for Chelsea to have him on the bench, but does mean that his value shouldn't sky rocket (like it did for Gallagher when he was here). Chalobah + £20m maybe a reasonable deal to be done. That would value Guehi at £50m-£60m, which maybe right for a player in the last year of his contract.

It obviously all hinges on whether there's a bidding war for Guehi, which there may well be. There are many teams that would want him due to weaknesses or players likely to leave. Liverpool, Newcastle, Tottenham, Man U, Man City & possibly other European teams. I doubt we'd get more than £50m-£60m for him (I maybe wrong). Therefore, we could go out and buy another CB + potentially another player for £20m-£25m each, but there's no guarantees they'll settle or be anywhere near the level needed.

The question is whether to go for 'tried & tested' and bank potentially £20m or take the gamble of a bidding war, potentially get more money, and look for a bargain like we got with Lacroix or a risk like with Riad (who I still think will be a great player, but we haven't been able to use him this season).

There would indeed be a lot of good reasons in going for Chalobah if it meant some sort of part exchange deal with Chelsea involving Guehi, however if clickbait is to be believed there would need to be a bit of rethinking to be done, by that I mean that around the time when Chalobah was being called back to Chelsea there was an article reflecting upon the situation which stated that he had been put up for sale by Chelsea in the 3 previous transfer windows at £25M each time, yet when it came to a negotiation between Chelsea & Palace for Guehi, Chelsea now somehow saw Chalobah price tag as £40M + £10M for Guehi -

This was the same Chalobah that wasnt even training with their first team at the time he came to us - so it would seem that someone in the blue camp certainly got creative with that offer.

Make of that what you will -

I can't believe that all his stats have been deleted from the matchday programme!!

He scored 3 goals and played well in 18 games yet he's been wiped out and they've kept Ahamada and he's 2 unused sub appearences!

TC is a good player and had some decent gamers for Palace, however, he lacked concentration at times and his one on one play was poor.

I can immediately think of 3 goals that were his fault - Wolves, Liverpool and Arsenal in the cup.

For Chelsea he's had similar performances - a couple of good games, a couple of average one and being responsible for the odd goal (e.g. one on one with Haaland v Man City)

Not at the price they are likely to be asking. He was an unused sub for Chelsea at the business end of the season and part of arguably the worst back 4 England have put out in living memory
If Guehi is really intent on Liverpool, he may run his contract down so with Lerma/Clyne/Riad may be sufficient . Otherwise go for a couple of cheaper players with European experience

An interesting proposition, particularly if MG goes this summer. We don't really know if Chadi Riad is a likely starter and may be OG has another Lacroix in his notebook.

As most will say, it depends on the price. I suspect he would like to come but like ASCPFC I think a promoted club will offer more.

And then there his expectations regarding wages. In principle I would take him but I suspect money demands, both Chelsea’s and his, will rule it out.

Although he did reasonably well for us during his brief loan spell, I thought he looked decidedly flaky last night, mind you, so did a few others.

Anyway, probably not for us at the sort of price Chelsea will be looking for.

Lacroix coat us 18m according to the BBC. Using that as a yardstick, Chalobah is worth 12-13m.

For something around that fee I'd definitely sign him. If it creeps past 15m, it's a no.
I don’t rate Chalobah that highly, he has too many major mistakes in him and doesn’t appear to be as calm and collected on the ball as Guehi which is what you need to be the way we set up. He was pretty damn poor for England and we’ve seen a few of those performances for Palace. £10m max for me and if Riad shows his reputed ability then Chalobah would probably end up first change after Lacroix, Riad and Richards.

He was quite good with us, but I don't think he excelled.
Furthermore, he did have the very consistent Lacroix and Guehi beside him which made it easier.
Personally I thought we looked more solid when Richards replaced him.

Unless it's at a reasonable price, it's a no from me.

Really don't know what to make of him as a player. He's OK is about as far as I'd go. He's 26 next month and is unlikely to have clubs queuing up to sign him.
