Yes you Johnson 🤣There was potential in the squad that OG inherited, it hadn't performed under Hodgson but Glasner made it real - so much so that Parish was able to cash in...
We can but hope that Sage can lift those players that have yet to attain the levels that they may be capable of.
Bully he will come good but not saying when 🫣Yes you Johnson 🤣

Not to underrate Glasners achievements but in fairness I don't think Hodgson ever really had Eze and Olise both fit at the same time. There was potential in the squad that OG inherited, it hadn't performed under Hodgson but Glasner made it real - so much so that Parish was able to cash in...

Glasner definitely got a tune out of Mateta, who was genuinely abysmal previously. Here's hoping Sage can have the same effect on the likes of Johnson and Nketiah. As for Canvot I like him, and I would think that Sage can express what he wants from him better in French than in English. Speaking of which I guess team talks will be in English and Sage, from the interview I heard seems of a good standard. Not to underrate Glasners achievements but in fairness I don't think Hodgson ever really had Eze and Olise both fit at the same time.
Moreover, both those players developed over their time with us, so Glasner found in both players a more finished product to work with than either Hodgson or Vierra did. They were coming to the boil as he arrived. Same with Guehi.
I can't see too many of our current squad on that same upward curve, Wharton apart. Maybe Canvot?

Mateta is the example we should cherish. He was not just average but absolutely f***ing awful for years and then, one day, he was really good.Glasner definitely got a tune out of Mateta, who was genuinely abysmal previously. No apols needed, mate.Clearly the current first team plus subs is quite a way off dougies long assembled fa cup winning team. We've now lost both first choice centre halves in guehi and lacroix, the skill of Eze and the managerial nouse of Glasner.
Weve replaced them with a rookie and a free transfer, and pino is injured from the world cup. There are question marks around Mateta, and the wolves are hovering around a number of others. Strand Larsen and BJ have hardly set the world alight, and Sage has hardly had time to meet the world cup players, let alone get them into a cohesive playing style yet. Obviously there is still time to get a Europa League winning squad together, but currently i would bite your hand off for 17th and a shot at a 4th trophy. I fancy it will be our last shot at it for a few years and just hope we do better than West Ham did after winning the Conference League trophy.
Apols for such a negative post haha

This is what worries me, it's so easy to look at someone and be shallow/judge.. I looked at him in the videos, his sport wear was not flattering, had boobs and a belly, his demeanour wasn't solid..I know he’s moved to another country and he’s speaking his second language, but he doesn’t exactly come across as mr personality. I’ve always thought teams take on the personality of their manager if they’re around long enough, in this case I hope not otherwise it’s going to be a pretty dour season 🤣

A realistic post. Last season's league form was woeful, a poorly placed finish of 15th was a warning signal that winning the tin pot Conference Cup doesn't paper over the deficiencies in the squad or recruitment.Clearly the current first team plus subs is quite a way off dougies long assembled fa cup winning team. Perhaps it's the Glasner effect, or maybe it's Parish selling the better players and not replacing them with like. One can only hope that Monsieur Sage can bring some fresh impetus to the side.

Regarding the "better" players - yes, they were going to leave and Parish did the best business deals he could at the time, but let's be mindful of the fact that it was a combination of playing for Palace and the managers and personalities at the club that brought the likes of Guehi, Olise, Eze, and Lacroix into the limelight in the first place.If we look at those '' better players '' ;
Olise had a release clause in his contract - if Parish hadn't agreed to that then Olise could in theory have joined Chelsea the year before he did leave.
Eze the same in terms of release clause
Guehi - made no secret of the fact he wasn't going to sign a new contract. That saga became an unnecessary mess which I think initially triggered Glasner.
Replacing them with the like ? Replacing arguably one of the best players in the world in Olise, a unique talent that is Ebs and one of the best central defenders in the Premier League is a tall order to say the least !
The one I don't get is Lacroix given his contract position. But clearly the player wanted the move.
My Trepidation is a moving feast in line with what we have at the moment v. the clock ticking down to both the start of the season and the end of the transfer window.
So as of now - I can only see an underwhelming league season and a similar finishing place to last year. Which we may end up being grateful for !

I have spoken to some gentleman who are entertaining the notion that Monsieur Sage might not be at our club at the end of the season.Regarding the "better" players - yes, they were going to leave and Parish did the best business deals he could at the time, but let's be mindful of the fact that it was a combination of playing for Palace and the managers and personalities at the club that brought the likes of Guehi, Olise, Eze, and Lacroix into the limelight in the first place.
What I am trying to say is how often can such an amazing group come together thanks to a mix of sound recruitment and player aptitude? Was this a once in a blue moon occasion? I recognize that it it unlikely to happen again anytime soon, particularly as the change in scouting personnel has thus far not had the same level of success as previously.
I can only see that Sage is working with a less talented group than that which Glasner inherited and although Sage strikes me as a manager who has a way about him and is quietly confident in his own ability, we may well, as you say, end up being grateful for another lower mid table finish.
England
We haven't spoken of course, but that's a notion that I have been entertaining myself.I have spoken to some gentleman who are entertaining the notion that Monsieur Sage might not be at our club at the end of the season.
One of them opined that De Boer's tenure would be ephemeral before the start of the season.
I of course wish him all the very best and fervently hope that this scenario does not become reality for obvious reasons.

I think his girlfriend/wife said something similarBully he will come good but not saying when 🫣

The problem is the whole system relies on Muñoz, Mitchell although our best defender, he isn't attacking enough for that position, if we dont get a better LWB, and Muñoz gets injured, then we are Fkduec.I'm trying to persuade myself that if we sign Tomiyasu and there's no further movements in or out that we can survive the coming season.
So, here goes:
Likely 1st XI
HendersonThe back-up 2nd XI
Canvot Richards Riad
Munoz Wharton Kamada Mitchell
Sarr Mateta Pino
Benitezwhich leaves us with Matthews, Nketiah, Ozoh, Esse and JRS plus the Academy players (especially Drakes-Thomas).
Tomiyasu Mingueza Lerma
Cardines Hughes Doucoure Sosa
Johnson Strand Larsen Franca
I think we might just survive the drop with that and have ok runs in the cups.
Ireland
I think Mitchell has massively improved going forward. Conversely, Munoz didn't ever play the same for us since his injury. But he clearly did it for Columbia - so he still has it.The problem is the whole system relies on Muñoz, Mitchell although our best defender, he isn't attacking enough for that position, if we dont get a better LWB, and Muñoz gets injured, then we are Fkduec.

Also if Munoz does get injured, Mingueza will take his place and at least he's a wing back who's spent a number of years in a decent league and has a decent amount of European experience.I think Mitchell has massively improved going forward.
