Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

According to Ed Aarons we’ve spent the least amount of any club in Europe’s top five leagues. I know money is quite tight but considering the dire financial position of some clubs in Ligue 1 for example, I think it tells the story. I didn’t expect us to spend lots this summer but given we had very clear needs (CB cover, attacking cover) nobody can tell me that is anything other than either dreadful planning or incompetence in the transfer market.

Exactly, people are quick enough to make excuses for the club, we're in the richest league in the world, it must be so hard having a transfer and wage budget atleat 2x bigger than 99% of clubs in the world.

We’ve only spent about £3 mil on Sosa and now have very little creative flair in the team so we definitely need to spend there and other areas. I highly doubt we’ll not buy anyone so we’ll have to see what happens in the coming days.

My personal preference is to buy players before selling high value players, but that doesn’t come without risk, especially these days. Not only do they know you need to sell but they know you have financial rules to adhere to, and can therefore offer lower more confidently. However, it is obvious the other way round that selling first means they know you have a lot of cash to spend.

When we sold Andersen late on many went mental. Lacroix did alright I’d say. When we sold Sean Scannell some lost their minds. Bolasie didn’t turn out too bad. Replacing Eze is obviously a difficult proposition but we dealt with losing Olise by buying Sarr. A different player but very suitable to the system.

I personally hate the first 2 weeks of the season because of how we do business but we need to see what develops. I just hope Glasner is satisfied with what we come up with this time.

I think we are now in a world where if we sign a player on a 4 or 5 year deal we will always sell them when they get to 2 years unless they sign an extension (like Eze actually did).

This is really hard. The supporter in me wants Parish to pull his finger out. He has well and truly thrown Ollie under the bus... 2 years running. Textor was absolutely correct he is a very negative chairman and is a by the books bloke with no thrills.

The business man in me see's the bigger picture. We nearly had no club and Parrish is the one to thank for us still being here and eventually having the greatest sporting day ever in May. Because Parrish only cares about that seat at the premier league table. Survival is a must and I do think we will not go down as Parrish has shown time and time again he will act and do whatever is needed to maintain our status.

The outcome is the only long term managers we are likely to have will be Roy types who toe the line. Somebody like Ollie has way too much ambition to put up with this.

I half agree with your statement when £3 mil spent so far is pitiful tbf and tbh. However, just one signing could move us up the buying league to near the top percentages.

We will see what happens now we’ve actually now sold before buying. It won’t be nothing but it won’t be £100 mil, but there will be signings.

This is shameful. Steve Parish is our greatest chairman but it’s time he accepts his and / or the boards mistakes this summer and put it right or find another solution.
We fans and Glasner have not asked for much. The first two signings I am happy with. But then where are the key signings to keep momentum or take us forward, all that feel good factor has gone and now it is borderline crisis. Again we get a disrupted start to the season, Inside and increasingly outside Glasner will be furious and rightly so. I’ve only seen a manager interview like this when leaving, Conte and Mourinho come to mind

I don’t think Parish has thrown Glasner under the bus but it would be a whole lot better for a manager to have his squad 90% assembled a few weeks before the season. We always do it 2 weeks into the season, but usually do deliver.

There were some times of 1 striker, or 5 defenders plus that Spurs reject Zeki Fryers with no other left footed back up. Or lots of central midfielders with holes elsewhere was another. I don’t see us taking liberties like that now but they have to pull their fingers out definitely.

It’s not about the buying league though is it. It’s planning, it’s not haggling over selling someone for £5m more but spending £10 m more on a replacement. Parish will need to pull off some incredible surprises to right this wrong or Glasner could walk before his contract ends

He could walk before Christmas at this rate. If Man U starts badly then I can see them coming in for Glasner and Wharton in January.

I know it’s not about the buying league but I’m adding some perspective to the stat that’s intended to cause panic and anger. If that is the stat after the window then fair enough, but it isn’t.

For a long time we’ve had a list of targets. They either come off or we move onto others on our list, rather than feeling under pressure to spend loads on players on a small list. What also tends to happen is we pull out of the hat players nobody was even aware we were looking at or in some cases had even heard of. I hate the transfer window and start of the season but we usually buy well.

No they didn't they did like Palace wouldn't put proper investment into the squad the owner kept coming out with like SP using the past for reference to not need to improve.

Pullis court stuff is meaningless the guy stopped us from going down and had we gone down SP own words we would have been in trouble fiance wise again which is why he had to allow 2 of the current share holdings onboard he was desperate.

Every manager and player has an agenda.

SJ has more wealth then SP (SP has gained his wealth from Palace before hand this is why he required the other 3 with him) did you know that and the ground stuff he got 3rd party to purchase with intent on when he had funds to take it back but remember the banking crisis.
You do bang on. Can’t be arsed talking to you as it is not a debate just you shouting. You have given no evidence to back up your points. Stoke changed from Pulis to Hughes and style of play and it went tits up.

I couldn’t care less is Jordan has more money than parish or not. What relevance is that to anything. You can respond if you want but I done on this topic

We did when Dougie was here anyway.

That is pretty staggering if true.
With Parish’s excellent track record with the club I think fans would cut him some slack if he provided a broad overview of why this is the case.

I’m not talking financial chapter and verse, just an overview.

What has happened between Glasner being promised early deals and where we are now with a very frustrated manager?
I don’t think the Europa league demotion in itself is the sole reason.
The demotion can't have anything to do with it. If anything Parish should have recognised the need to sign / loan a couple of players to encompass the extra games a campaign in Europe would entail, particularly given the likelihood of Eze and / or Guehi moving on. I've said it before, Steve Parish is happy with 12th to 14th place, but two trophies in quick succession has caught him with his pants down...

Agreed this summer has just shown that even though he said that he’s wants to take the club to next level. they were empty words and probably didn’t mean them he was just saying it because we are at the next level and he has really failed Ollie and the fans thus far.

What do you think the money men Harris, Blitzer and Johnson think of the farcical goings on at the Palace, Parish is answerable to them, i cant believe they are jumping up and down with joy, i have liked Parish in the past, and he will always be a part of our history, but i think he may be past his sell by date, what about Forest who by all accounts chairman and manager not seeing eye to eye, and Macarana gets Glasner!!!

I would be more interested in his view after the window closes.

That said, OG not happy we are always last to the pot.

I might agree with you after the close of the window, we’ll see. After having to sell Olise we moved onto the next level with what we achieved last season. We aren’t going to buy an identical Eze like we didn’t buy an identical Olise, so we’ll see what we do and who we buy.
