Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

Yes, he knew exactly what he wanted in terms of players, but don't forget, months ago our Director of Football (and probably most of his scouting contacts) went off suddenly. So, who is out there finding these players to fit the profile?

I can't find the media link now but I read this week that, in fairness to him, Dougie handed over the plan for the summer to Moody and has been available at the end of the phone whenever needed. That'd make sense given Parish's claim to Lineker that they're already looking at 2026 (although perhaps he forgot to look at 2025).

It seems the players were identified and some combination of willingness, finances and persuasion has brought the plan crashing down.

I think this is a massive 11 days for Parish, it it goes badly i think that the 75% of Blitzer, Harris and Johnson will have an EGM and remove Parish from Chairman, i am a Parish fan, but he has, at the moment, had a nightmare off the pitch, and if i was one of the 3 major shareholders i would be livid, and remove him from his position, but he has 11 days to save himself, shambles

Does Marc Guihe really want to stick around with all this mess?

Within the context of accepting that England's best CB doesn't want to spend his mid to late 20s playing for Palace, he's acted like an absolute saint.

This is one of the biggest seasons of his career leading into a World Cup under a new England manager and by the sounds of things, with a Champions League campaign to be involved in for which his side will be favourites. There are many, many players who - having been publicly told they're going to be sold in the next 2 weeks - wouldn't be putting in a shift.

There is a really eerie silence in terms of CBs rumoured to be coming in to Palace which is extremely unusual in the social media age.

I don't believe they would.

He is there guy and while he has been in charge the clubs value has more then doubled.

Yes mistakes have been made but has it cost those owners money not really.

The other big issue is they would have to get involved to try find someone else to take over SP role.

SP has sub companies as well attached to the club they would have to deal with that as well.

SP every time I see him I cringe he looks like a Vegan and not healthy (If it wasn't for the amount of money hes making out of Palace he would have left ages ago this is his best pay package he has ever had)

Manager is 100% going once contract is up it's very clear to see from last nights interview him and SP are not even coming out with the same things and SP was making a lot of excuses (He should not being relying on an old list put together by a guy who left 6 months ago and to still be in contact with him about it is crazy that sounds like the sort of thing you do with multi clubs)

He really is an absolutely true professional

I’m a big fan of Parish for his decision making which has made us a steady Premier League team capable of winning trophies. I’m also a huge fan of Glasner for his ability to mould a group of players into a team capable of winning trophies. On the flip side, Parish is cautious in the extreme probably due to his fear of doing what our previous chairman did. Glasner also has his issues and allegedly has left his previous jobs over the failure of boards to strengthen. They were always going to end up in this situation unless Arses and Liverpool pounced early in the window and bought our two players. Unfortunately that didn’t happen and we are shopping late in the window again. It could have been different had Parish speculated and brought players in, the risk being Glasner ended up with a much bigger squad if Eze and Guehi weren’t sold while Parish ended up with an even greater debt to service. I doubt he would ever have taken that risk , but certainly not for a manager with 1 year left on his contract. I’m pretty sure there would have been discussions about extending his contract over the summer and I doubt he said he’d definitely extend if they strengthened the squad. He could have signed a new contract and said “now back me” but he didn’t.
I’m afraid this scenario was always likely to happen. We can only hope we sign a few players this coming week and once the window closes Ollie can concentrate on giving us another successful season and when he goes, leaves us better than he found us for the next manager through the door.

This is a fair and balanced post if it was written a few weeks ago.
In my view we've gone beyond that.
The squad last night and for this Sunday isn't strong enough, including players we're trying to get rid of and players that Glasner doesn't want to use.
Perhaps I'm being pessimistic, but I can't see all this being resolved in the remaining days of the window.
I think Guehi will go meaning we would need replacements for both Eze and Guehi.
That's two signings needed as well as the defender and attacking player we were looking for anyway.
That's 4 signings there
There's also possible outgoings of JRS, Edouard, Franca and Ahamada and perhaps a replacement or two for them.
This would mean averaging a transaction a day for the rest of the window.
Is this realistic?

It's a shame that in our finest season ever, we have had a total sh*tstorm of disasters - Dougie going, continual will they/won't they with Eze/Guehi, the whole sorry Euro League/Conference/Textor saga, is it any wonder that the forward planning hasn't been all that it could have been?

It makes me smile the way people who probably don't have even 5 digits on their bank balance expect the club to find tens of millions at the drop of a hat, to buy, and pay, players we may not even need if someone doesn't leave.
The issue in my view is that Glasner gave an answer after Dougie left and before the cup final, that planning for next season started in February. Parish on the Rest is football told Lineker that they had to plan a year in advance, considering contract positions and whether players would leave. At the very least the impression given is that we have not followed through with our plans.

I think it’s clear that SP is out of his depth now, can’t have our best player sitting out first game of the season and not having adequate replacements in, quite frankly it’s embarrassing especially in a season where we have Europe as well. SP has taken the club as far as he can take it. Time to move on now
I totally agree with this, he is well out of his depth, And at what point does he lose the f-king halo that surrounds him. We are pretty much going to lose the best Manager we have ever had & in my opinion Solely because of SP and his management & false promises, I can't see any decent player staying at a club with no ambition for more than a season or two. And that's where we are, I am Palace through & through, But every season its the same thing, And now without Dougie to pluck diamonds from the lower divisions, I feel SP is holding the club back, And yes I know we just won the FA Cup etc. But we had the opportunity to do something special this season, But nope ain't going to happen, I just hope I regret writing this, This is written our of frustration

Who cares about a sporting director, its a new thing in football, Parish is chairman, its his job to step into that role, alongside the manager and team of analysts and scouts, they should still be able to work together to identify and sign targets.
Im sick of the excuses, its been a terrible summer, the squad hasnt been improved and now 1 week into the season the actual first 11, let alone the squad is weaker than last season.

It really isn't unusual for a manager and a chairman to be at odds when transfers both in and out are occurring during a transfer window. I imagine Thomas Frank is feeling equally frustrated that the pot of gold promised to him hasn't meant him being able to sign the players he wanted.

I'm not sure how we could possibly replace Eze without selling him first. We just don't have the funds to go out and spend £30M on a player without the outgoing transfer being finalised. To do something before that occurred, like Glasner seems to have wanted would just weaken our position as clubs would know we'd take less for Eze to balance the books.

Not only are we hamstrung by financial constraints where we need to sell before we buy, we are then trying to attract players that other EPL sides are not going to try and steal our targets.

Last night was definitey an indication that OG is very unhappy. He made his point perfectly clear by only making one substitution.

I'm sure Steve is not busy Rikz so should be fine to pick up another full time role. Have you considered he was perhaps giving the person who was second in command a chance to see how they do, maybe it didn't quite work (for now) and then brought in a proven DoF from Wolves who unearthed some gems.

It's frustrating for fans but look at the long term trend over the short term situation...

Reading between the lines, it appears that SP is overly aware of the FFP rules and is acting accordingly.
Assuming Arsenal will be paying a good chunk up front for Eze, we should be in a good space for Khanooukos, Dibley and maybe even the Arsenal full back if Guehi goes (in line with the rules).
The break in opinion between chairman and manager is inevitable under the mixed up messed up rules that football has created over finances. Stick to the rules as Parish is doing and watch this space for the outcome. If he pulls it off, he will be seen as some sort of genius, fail and it makes fat boy at NF and his illegal manoeuvres look like the future. Cheats often prosper in this modern world. Fat boy is clearly not alone.
The rules currently in place clearly help the bigger clubs as their finances are so much stronger and it would appear those other clubs that do not follow them (Lyon for example)
Here is wishing us good fortune, we are really going to need it.

Glasner had the a*sehole as his team had just performed poorly and could probably have performed better had his star player's mum not sent a sick note that morning.

I suspect his Forest presser will be more measured.

It has always been the same, going back to the early 80s when we lost Kenny Samson & didn’t replace him properly. The FA Cup & Charity Shield were wonderful but Parish is not equipped to back his managers properly. 16th or 17th, along with many fans, seems to appease him. We have been at the top level now for a significant number of years with all its incumbent riches & we don’t kick on in the league. Yet as has already been said, we have a very thin squad again with our talisman gone, a totally cheesed off manager, a race against time to get replacements in & face another season probably again behind the likes of Bournemouth, Fulham, Brentford & Brighton or worse, a relegation fight, given possible extra games in Europe. Arguably SP has given us the most successful era but the time has long gone for trying to compete on the cheap at the top table. He loves the publicity & many think he is wonderful but he must carry responsibility for the European demotion & with the best manager we have ever had unwilling to commit long term, this club will do nothing under him other than exist in the top division if we are lucky. Some might be satisfied with that, but surely if you do the same job for a significant number of years, you should be trying to improve each year. It is l am afraid the usual Palace way, something really good, coming tumbling down very quickly☹️.

This is a really good post to balance opinion.

I (emotionally) really want to bang out the 'not hard is it, best manager ever who may walk, European campaign ahead, Billionaires on the board, just buy some f***ing players, same thing every season with no lessons learned' etc. lines, however you have to take the stance that SP has no clue and OG is just going to toys out the pram immediately because of this. I don't believe either is a likely accurate analysis of things,

Lots of factors at play, emotions are always high least of all when expectation is so high and the panic of the football fan is always at maximum. I'm still nervous but it will be what it will be. Big 10 days ahead though.

Another full time role, he's chairman, even with dougie still there he would be overseeing everything, he will ultimately have the final say on every transfer, it will be him who decides the fee and wages, Dougie will just be negotiating on his behalf. For years the manager had the role of both coach and sporting director and they managed it. Yes Parish has done an amazing job overall, tho he's hardly doing it out the kindness of his own heart, he will be paid a great wage to do it. Of course he wants the best for the club, of course he has the clubs best interests at heart. But this summer he hasn't been good enough in his role. Every manager and chairman have disagreements but not to the extent where they walk out. Pulis, Big Sam and if Glasner walks, thats three managers, then the club really needs to look at themselves and say where are we going wrong and why do we keep failing our managers. How can we improve etc.

He hasn’t walked yet and the other 2 were no great loss to be fair.
