The press conference of all press conferences

Its always "interesting" in the footballing world when important announcements are made by the coach and not the CEO, who remains elusive - until that is he opines on Men in Blazers. In any other business a good CEO would be the one out in front of the comms and media, leading from the front; but not in football - they all hide in their swanky offices until the dust dies down. It is bizarre that the club allowed Glasner to announce his own demise, who is running this outfit .....
It seems appropriate to me that Glasner is the one who broke the news. All along, it has been his choice to leave, not Parish's. So Glasner should be the one to face the music.

If he were being fired, of course: different story.

I still think The FA Cup win, as amazing as it was, left us in an impossible situation. We were not ready, financially or otherwise to be in Europe and fight on so many fronts. The first 11, maybe, but the squad was lacking.
It was obvious the club were restricted in what they could spend over the summer, and yes, that may be exaggerated by SP's natural conservative attitude with the finances (an attitude that has gotten us to where we are by the way....). We couldn't get all these players in (whoever they were) even if we wanted to.
OG's moaning about this was him trying to protect his reputation, and give an excuse for the poor run.

It feels like Glasner is leaving because of the perceived lack of financial backing from Parish. He won a cup and got into Europe and wants the club to push forward, at pace.

However, Parish and co have more to think about then Glasners ambitions. Clubs bigger than us have made bad investments and have tumbled down the leagues. As our clubs custodian he has to balance both the short and long term objectives.

e.g. Selling Guehi now is bad for the current manager, but is the best decision for the club.

As a manager, its very easy to demand lots of money to be spent, unaware of the PSR implications or bigger risks at play. But he wont be out of pocket, nor stick around to help if it all goes pear shaped.

Not saying there isn't ant fault to lay at Steves door, but this manager has history of falling out with owners over spend.
Glasner is leaving because he does what he wants, he has no loyalty to anything, its about him, which is fair enough, but that's what he does.

Weird reading some of these comments. The man has our highest win percentage (45%) in the top division of any Palace manager, he won us our only ever major trophy, he took us into Europe for the first time, he took us on a record-breaking 19-game unbeaten run this season, and then, when injuries occurred and fatigue set in, as he warned the club would happen, results dipped. Even then, we're still only 7 points off the Champion's League places with a squad that was assembled for less than Arsenal's bench.

But yeah, bring in Joe Bloggs, switch to a back four, and we'll be challenging for the PL title.

Southgate is currently not employed in football management. 😛
Nor Pardew - he might be interested in an 'Interim' role to end of season. 😛
😀
I would love to re-live the buzz when Pardew first arrived. Also I can never understand why he got crucified for dancing when we scored in the cup final. Other managers have done it including Glasner. Still I get the impression most fans are just not ‘interim ’ ( sorry couldn’t resist). Bring back Coppell he must be younger than Roy.

His left because he has far bigger ambition than midtable mediocrity, like Olise, like Guehi, like Eze, like Wharton will in the future.

We are not and will never be a club that can attract and keep world class players or managers. We will use each other for the benefit of our club and their careers. If we're successful then everyone is a winner.

BTW midtable mediocrity is success for a club of our size.

He's our greatest ever manager and I wish him all the success in the future. The same as eze, Guehi and olise.

Other question you have to ask - with OG going is it now going to be more difficult to attract players this window, when we desperately need reinforcements when they don't know who their new Manager will be..??

Beyond that who will be making the decision on new players..??

We at least need a quality replacement for Guehi..!!

To a small group of players who have options but lets face it, like when a player signs for a Saudi team, they couldnt care less who the manager is. We're a midtable premier league club, massively attractive for 99.9% of players, signing for us is like winning the lottery.

I have scratched every hair on my entirely bald head ever since watching the most infamous CPFC press conference in recent history earlier, that is how confused I am.

Why this information has not been retained in house is absolutely beyond unforgivable from a fans point of view, and for once I agree with the ex-pro's on Talksport alluding towards one thing, and one thing only....the relationship between Parish & Glasner has completely broken down and become untenable to the point of no return.

I just cannot see how making this public bears even 1% of positiveness towards our great club, especially during the most successful period in our history. Therefore Glasner, who now seems to be on a one man crusade against the club and its fans, has in all likelihood used the press conference as a cheap and rather immature dig at Parish via the media. And we can all stop dreaming of any marquee signings during this window as no one with any pedigree or even potential pedigree would want to join a sinking ship.

With our captain and talisman having played his last game for us, JP looking more likely by the hour to follow him, Munoz's agent indirectly putting his client in the shop window on Monday, Sarr not expected to be seen in a Palace shirt until Feb due to his beloved Nations AFCON success & the Senegalese President closing the country down for 3-day party so the team can travel the country for every citizen to pay homage (all subject to them winning the thing on Sunday for only the second time in their history of course)....... I wouldn't be surprised if Glasner has rented a big yellow storage unit this week to start putting his belongings in whilst plotting an early exit.

As fans, I think we deserve much better than all this immature nonsense, especially with them all knowing we are still riding the crest of wave on the back of our first real successful period at the top level.

But I guess this is modern day football after all, and whilst it pains me to say it, there is no loyalty left in the modern game. It is each man for himself now when it comes to the owners and players, which of course started the day we lost the traditional four divisions and our engraved legendary Division One to the FA Carling Premiership.

Steve, Ollie, et-al.... keep it in your trousers eh chaps and try to remember the backbone of the club, who were actually here long before you guys arrived, and will be here long after you're gone.

I appreciate that is easier said than done however. And whilst Parish will always have an affiliation to Palace (one hopes) the moment OG leaves SE25, no doubt so will his memories and won't be in a rush to come back, however way he ends up departing.

Someone mentioned last month that they noticed his body language had changed at the ground almost to a disinterested demeanour, and if that is so then there is absolutely no point of him spending another hour as our manager and knowing we are safe from harm, we should use the rest of the season bedding in a new coach otherwise we run the risk of another FDB debacle next season.

Rant over

I don’t think this is a huge shock, to be honest. Glasner feels like one of those managers who makes a strong impact quickly, and to be fair he and the squad did exactly that. But was he ever going to build a five- to ten-year dynasty? Probably not.

If you look at his career pattern, it’s familiar. Goes into a club, has success, hits certain targets, then things start to plateau. The football gets found out, transfer disagreements creep in, and eventually there’s friction with the board. There’s a bit of history there now, and it feels like we’ve reached that point again.

Football runs in cycles, and Palace are no different. When Roy came back, we played some excellent attacking football for about 8-10 weeks before everything reverted back to type. It feels similar now. OG’s system looks like it’s been worked out in some respects.

We’re a very good counter-attacking side. Always have been. But we’re not particularly strong playing on the front foot, breaking teams down week after week. I don’t think OG is the manager to fundamentally change that if that’s the direction the club wants to go.

I’ll be honest, I’d be slightly worried about Gareth Southgate coming in. I’m not convinced he has the tactical plan or club-level philosophy that fits what we need right now. That said, there are plenty of good managerial options out there.

I also can’t really see OG settling into a long spell anywhere else either. He feels like an “impact” manager rather than someone who embeds himself for multiple seasons. In that sense, he’s a bit Roy Mark II. Roy was brilliant at organising teams and tightening things up, but once the opposition sat deep, we often ran out of ideas - and that was a pattern in his career (see England)

None of that takes away from what OG gave us over the last 12 months. He delivered moments and performances that most of us never thought we’d see at Palace. For that, he’ll always be welcome at Selhurst Park.

But if you look at the parallels with the end of the Patrick Vieira era, you can see the same patterns starting to form.

Recruitment goes in cycles too. The last major reset was around five years ago under Vieira, and it feels like we’re heading into another one now.

The next manager will get a summer window, some backing, and the chance to reshape the squad where it’s needed. For now, the rest of the season is about consolidation. Get through it safely, maybe push on in the Conference League if possible, and reset properly in the summer.

Will we miss OG? Possibly. But this feels like one of those moments where the timing was just right. Right club, right manager, right moment. Those things don’t last forever, and we can’t really ask for more than what we got.

And finally, from the club’s perspective, £20m for Guehi is very good business when he is going anyway

It was a chapter worth having. Now it’s closing, and it’s probably the right time to turn the page.
Well said.

No he isnt, if he goes to a "big" club he will do well to last 6 months.
