The Brexit thread

There's nothing angry in my post, other than my belief about what a stupid costly mistake brexshit is. If not where are the wins for us? Because you didn't list any, there should be loads but by every metric we're losers

You talk of anger, look at the post following mine, absolutely bitter

We all know successive governments have not taken advantage of the opportunities as they have never believed in it.

Matching Ireland's corporation tax would have been an easy one to do with huge benefits. They still can.

That being said, Brexit has enabled Labour to (unfortunately) to tax private schools. A win there if you're a socialist.

What are the losses for you?

Obviously disagree with you on Brexit.....but I've never seen it called 'brexshit' before and that's bleeding hilarious.

It’s not exorbitant at all. It’s obviously not enough if you are still smoking.

If you aren’t paying that money in tobacco tax then it needs to be raised elsewhere. Perhaps by making smokers pay for any smoking related health care privately and removing it from the remit of the NHS?
Sure. Let the same apply to anyone who drinks alcohol which causes far more social trouble. Also anyone who crashes their car should be charged for any treatment required and no one should be allowed to drive anything less than two miles.
Ban fast food too.

I was always against....as was Thatcher...the EU being used as a political project. In general I'm for free speech and decentralisation within national models that cooperate with other nations.....I think it's the best and most effective way human societies work.

By governments giving their powers away to the EU it becomes the same old story of being ruled over by banks, corporations and intelligence agencies while the politicians act as their meat muppets....giving the impression that it's only them making the decisions while the reality is that in many areas their voice isn't the most powerful in the room.......What happened to Truss was a very public example of that.

Brexit opened up the possibility of taking Britain in a very different direction but the politicians....controlled as they are....decided not to have that fight. How well it would have or wouldn't have done is immaterial to the fact that the public vote wasn't respected and was fought against, diluted and ultimately compromised....they just went for a crappier version of what they already had and then turn around and say, 'look at what Brexit did'....Eh No, you never really did Brexit.

The system fought back and mostly beat the democratic vote.

Because the establishment cares far more about power than democracy and always has.

Most of us know that....but for me what grates me is the lying about it.....Lots of normies are walking around with this fantasy idea about how the real world works.

Anyone who drinks alcohol and gets ill either primary or secondary, eating fat food, not looking while crossing the road, people injured in fights or stab fests
Where do you stop expecting an nhs free at the point of conception to treat people. How about rewarding smokers who don’t need care but contributed thousands in tax. Now that’s a good idea. How about old people who are going to die soon anyway. Get them to pay up, fancy needing health care when you are on your way out anyway. The cheek of these pensioners astounds me. Do you see how stupid your statement is !

We've been forced to match EU corporation tax levels for some time but don't expect much in the media about it.
What Ireland used to do was give companies a premises and usually a seven year tax break. As far as I'm aware, we can no longer do that. US firms that took these deals make up around 60% of Ireland's tax take these days. I believe it's eight US firms. Essentially a house of cards.

Right, so it's because we haven't cut corporation tax to f*** all is why we aren't rolling in it

We've lost liberty and billions in trade. Billions.

I didn't quite say that. I said it is one example of something that would and could still be a boost to the economy. We know how it has helped Ireland.

Good point. Einstein smoked and Trump doesn't. One f***ing clever fellow there.

Back then people considered smoking healthy and it was common, but in today's world, with the info you have, it's a really stupid choice to make.

And when you account for the fall in sterling against the euro your deal isn't such a bargain either.

You know what would boost the economy? Having an open trading arrangement with the 200m people in the nearest countries surrounding your own.

The only people who gained from Brexshit were Uber rich spivs and traitors who bet against this country on the markets.

I beg to differ. £120 cheaper for 200? I'll take that.

Same old whataboutery excuses!

Everyone who drives a car is expected to have insurance. I would have no problem with that insurance having to cover the costs incurred by the NHS which resulted from accidents. It would increase premiums for all, some substantially.

Fast food won’t kill you. Bad diets are what kill you, and if all you eat is fast food that’s a choice you would be unwise to make. Again if obese people fail to heed advice and end up needing assistance due to their stupidity then by all means charge them. Even if monitoring it looks tricky.

Make smokers pay a surcharge on NI contributions and lower the tax take? Or simply stop duty free shopping!

You can’t move abroad so that’s your beef.
Fine as others have different reasons for agreeing with it. Free votes have winners and losers. You spindle, lost 😂
