“The best of times, the worst of times”
The above quote is taken from the classic novel A Tales of two cities, by Charles Dickens

2025
FA cup winners
Community Shield winners
19 game unbeaten run
Competing in Europe.
Playing our best football since the Steve Coppell era.

2026
Humiliated in the FA cup ( no disrespect Macclesfield)- a totally justified and deserved win.

Manager having a melt down - in the full glare of the world media ( suggesting a total breakdown in a working relationship between team manager and ownership of club)
This has an obvious negative effect on on members of the playing staff, as this is self evident in personal and team results and performance.

Possible relegation candidates ( But I think we’ve just enough points on the board! Just !)

Upon reflection I recon Charles Dickens would make a classic fan of Palace!

COYP!!!

If Glasner resigns therefore waiving a pay off it will be a far, far better thing than he has ever done, and his time off will be a far, far better rest than he has ever known. And for book worms may I recommend the true story of how Samantha Fox paid to have her breasts insured: 'A Sale of Two Titties'.

Funnily enough I was having similar thoughts myself this weekend (not the Dickens bit).
I think we'll muddle through the rest of the season and have enough to stay in the League but will exit Europe .
Most of the players are about 10-20% off what they were last season.
The relentless focus has gone.
Unsurprisingly heads have dropped on the back of only one win in a couple of months and the confidence is brittle.
It no longer looks like a group working towards a common goal which is unsurprising with some of the group already planning their next moves for next season.
I already have a feeling that I just want the season out of the way which is an unfamiliar one so early in the season.

Might possibly become an anaconda. 😉

A decent assessment. Although I still dont buy into the hysteria that we will even become properly involved in a relegation battle let alone need to survive one.
What upsets me is we had a huge opportunity to build on last season and not enough has been done to give us a chance of making that happen. Thats been talked to death. The owners, Glasner, even some of the players have to own a bit of responsibility for that but we are where we are.
I'd rather a hand shake a respectful thanks from both sides a Glasner moved on but the owners decided Glasner will not be getting a pay off and that they clearly dont want to be forced into making a quick decision on the next manager. In view of this I believe we'll pick up enough points to stay up and will probably finish somewhere close to where we are now. 11th to 14th. I dont imagine we'll win the Conference League (mainly because Glasner doesn't know how to unlock a low block defence and all the teams in this competition seem to play that way) so its probably going to be a case of wait for the season to end, see who comes in next and we go again next season.

Very good exhibitionist!!

I suppose what I was trying to get across, is that I have been following The Palace for over 55 years, and finally after many false dawns I thought we had finally cracked it!

Unfortunately throwing 80 mil at it, in the latest transfer window smacks to me of panic buying!
All too little, too late.
Up the Palace!

depends what you mean by 'cracking it'. A decent new stand and aiming for 8th rather than 12th every season is hardly a pipe dream, and we ain't that far off, and we're doing a lot better than Sidney Carlton Athletic. 🙂

‘The worst of times’ for me is captured by a loss of faith in the team, the team which has been unable to compete let alone win for months, with embarrassing defeats along the way merely become part and parcel.

It has nothing to do with Europe, where we finish in the Prem, the FA Cup, money spent or not spent or even the contrast to last season. It’s completely losing faith in the team/losing interest in the football which is the hardest thing for me to take. There just seems very little point these days, watching a few blokes prance about in Palace kits, unable to compete.

Compare that to Paul Hart’s short reign for example. That was on paper the worst of times in my Palace supporting life, however I was fully engaged with the experience of being a fan, everything was about Palace for me and I felt very close to the players, manager etc.

For what seems an eternity now it’s been a real ‘meh’ as it’s such a sh!tshow the football side of things has just completely disintegrated as far as I’m concerned and therefore there’s little point giving it any energy.

That’s all I want, is to watch Palace compete in football games, whatever the level. When you have no idea what’s going on at the top, the manager is a narcissist without any solutions and the players seem to have justifiably mentally departed, leaving the team uncompetitive, it robs you of the experience of being a fan and holding any interest in the football

Tyrick Mitchell, Will Hughes, Deano, Isnaila Sarr, maybe Chris Richards. Beyond that I don’t think I’ve any real fondness for anyone else at the club now.

We look what we are, leaderless both on and off the pitch.

Absolutely. I glad someone has mentioned it. Oliver Glasner has all the classic traits, charming at first, then the falling out and the lack of accountability - it's always someone else fault and that is a dead giveaway. The players must feel the negative vibes emanating from the narcissist, once understood there can be no going back.

Jesus! You are in a bad place. That’s more of a Shakespeare tragedy than a Dickensian melodrama! I don’t accept the players have any justification for “mentally departing”, nor do I believe they have done so. I’m disappointed in Glasner for his behaviour and for failing to manage the squad sensibly to the point where those who played twice a week were out on their feet and are still struggling to get back to where they were physically and mentally, and those who weren’t trusted lack confidence and match fitness to contribute effectively in this league. However, with the new signings we will come good. Twelfth again …..
