The best film trilogies

Lord of the Rings is not really a trilogy. It's one story that was so long they split it into 3.

You've missed off probably the most consistent trilogy which is Toy Story. All three movies were of a decent standard.

I know it's a kids thing but if you look at most of the others they all contain at least one bad movie e.g. Godfather franchise which was good, brilliant and then rubbish.

You want to get watching Toy Story 4 before Toy Story 5 comes out in 2026 Badger!

The re-edited version of Godfather lll was an improvement and although not nearly as good as the other two it ties up the story nicely. It's been somewhat reappraised by critics. But it was always gonna struggle after the strength of the first two.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed the latest Planet of the Apes trilogy (not seen ther 4th). For a 'Hollywood blockbuster' I thought they take risks and have a really good story arc.

I've really liked the first two Dune films so when the 3rd arrives that'll be up there in best trilogies for me.

The best acting in Godfather 2 is by John Cazale as Fredo. He died after The Deer Hunter so isn’t in the minds of people as such a good actor but all of the films he was in were nominated for Oscars. Al Pacino when he’s told by Kay she had an abortion rivals him though tbf.

Believe you me, she's seen a lot more than part 111. A lot more.
She's apparently with Bill Maher now 😳

Dark Knight trilogy was truly epic. Sort of like Star Wars and Alien - 1st very good, 2nd fantastic, 3rd ok.

While talking kids movies, you could also add Shrek to the list, although they (like Toy Story) became progressively worse the more characters they introduced.

Toy story is 5 films so technically not a Trilogy.

Your right about Lord of the rings it is 3 volumes though it is 6 books

Throw open the thread.

Movies that did deserve a sequel, or a prequel. But didnt get one.

1. Goodfellas

2. The Usual suspects

3. Se7en

4. Amadeus
Goodfellas wouldn’t be much of a sequel and the prequel would be a load of new characters not in Goodfellas. May as well just make a different film. Goodfellas was an absolute classic that also used a great soundtrack through the decades. A prequel couldn’t match it.

Don’t think I agree on Usual Suspects either. The film was clever because of his high intelligence to fool the police. It was short for a reason.

The Long Good Friday sequel couldn’t be believed because he was going to be
assassinated maybe after torture.

A Pulp Fiction prequel possibly but it was a snapshot of days.
Not really. You'd only need a credible way to get him out of the car. A Special Branch roadblock would do. Even a random accident.

Goodfellas did have a sequel ... Casino. Lomg Good Friday would need a prequel. And as for casting on the buses ... Stan Joe Pesci
Jack Clint Eastwood
Blakey Hal Holbrook
Olive Sandra Bullock
Arthur De Niro
Stan's mum Sophia Loren

I see Jane Fonda as Stan's mum and a storyline around her burning Stan's favourite vest on an ironing board Arthur found in a skip while Jack takes the new clippie (Halle Berry) to the Whippet Inn for a Scotch egg and a few snowballs over a game of darts.
