Crystal Palace in talks to sign PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez on free transfer

The 32-year-old will be out of contract with PSV later this month and is yet to sign a new deal with the Dutch champions.

Sounds like the perfect backup to Hendo. Free and experienced at the top level.

With luck we will be in four competitions next season. An experienced keeper will get playing time giving Hendo, a break now and again, in particular in the two games a week situations.

Rutter £40 Mill, Pedro just shy of £30 Mill, Tzimas £21 Mill.

Last season they spent £33 Mill on midfielder Minteh.The 3 midfielders O'Reilly, Wieffer and Gruda cost a combined £75 Mill.

Being objective, Brighton might not have been expecting instant gratification and instead were starting to build a foundation for regular top 6 places in future seasons. But let's hope that all goes incredibly badly for them. 18th this season and a points deduction for only having one song.

I'd be surprised if Brighton fans could name all of their squad. I try not to watch them too often, but Minteh seems like the only one of their signings from last summer that has really shone. Rutter got 5 goals, which is not great for a striker that cost £40 million. It's great stockpiling young talent if they progress, but if they don't play regularly at the top level the danger is they lose value, become dissatisfied and suddenly you've spunked all your money on players no one has heard of and PSR is knocking on the door saying "We want our money Lebowski..."

I see that, as usual, there is little going on in the Palace transfer window(s). Someone asked earlier... what do we need? If we are to compete in four competitions we need improved cover in most positions. We need extra strikers and I read a sensible comment earlier that a natural striker will score at any level so let us give our U21's some minutes especially in pre-season. Jesse Derry might be tempted to stay if he gets a chance and sees a future here. i have watched some U21 games both live and on Palace TV and I feel that they are not encouraged to play the same way as the first team. This is a serious mistake. Do we need different U21 coaches?

Yup. I see glasner extending, various contract bumps for key players and at least 3 new players in the door within a week.

I believe that 10 PL clubs have made signings, some players signed on permanent contracts who were on 'Loan' to the clubs last season.

I'm not sure that's a sensible comment at all...
Dwight Gayle comes to mind. Numerous others. The jump in quality to premier league is immense.
I'm not opposed to Derry being given a decent run in pre season though to see how he fares.

I also challenge the idea we need to go and buy heaps of players. I reckon 3-5 extra players will see us add decent depth, without rocking the boat too much in terms of culture.

During his three years at Palace in the Premiership Gayle was overall top scorer each year. One goal every 136 minutes in the league+cups and every182 minutes in league only i.e. a goal every two matches. The fact that managers did not use him, other than a sub, was one of the reasons why we struggled those seasons. He was a very good finisher but needed to play off a centre forward. Who can forget “Crystanbul”!!

To add some fuel to the Crystal Palace speculation, Willock visited the club over the weekend. Although it was on personal business rather than professional, Willock took to Instagram to post a short video from Crystal Palace’s academy complex in Beckenham.
Willock tagged Crystal Palace and W3 Sport in the post, which explains the reason for his visit. W3 Sport, is an app designed for young footballers co-founded by Willock and his brothers Chris Willock and Matty Willock.

The Golden Boot winners from the PL2 (U21) over the past few seasons:

23/24 - Will Lankshear - loaned to West Brom last season and failed to score or make an impact

22/23 - Carlos Forbs - signed for Ajax for a fairly big fee; scored 3 in 38 apps before being loaned to Wolves where he didn't play a game.

21/22 - Jes Rak-Sakyi / James Mcatee - we all know JRS. Mcatee is a talented squad player at City. Neither are regular goalscorers at Prem level.

20/21 - Liam Delap - probably the biggest success on the list with 12 Prem goals last season and a big move to Chelsea.

18/19 - Adam Idah - shipped off to Scotland after 12 goals in 100 appearances for Norwich, majority of those in the Championship. Reasonable goal scorer in Scottish football.

Even if we had a player scoring 15-20 at U21 level (we don't), there's absolutely no guarantees they'd make any impact at all in the professional game.

I think McAtee got double figures last year in all competitions which wasn’t bad as he didn’t start a lot of games and isn’t a striker per say.
