Summer Transfers 2025 (rumours and incomings)

Why would you keep one of them as a 3rd keeper? Surely better off to see if they can both go up a league respectively (on loan) and them make a call to see if one can fill the no2 spot.

Being a 3rd keeper, (apart from the money) must be a terrible job.
I think a keeper will be bought in as number 2, so both the young promising keepers can gain more experience on loan.

I would like to see Goodman get opportunity in preseason he was outstanding albeit in league 2
I think he deserves it. I also think he's good enough.
An interesting case of goalies I saw with my own eyes was at Kidderminster Harriers. They had Paul Jones in goal - in the conference. He was excellent, he must have been there maybe three seasons. At a guess, he came from somewhere like Merthyr Tydfil.
He was signed by Southampton and was also Wale's Goalie. He went straight from the conference to the top.
Goalies and strikers are the two positions that have the best chance of working at higher levels if given the chance. Someone who always finds the back of the net sometimes does so at almost any level. The outright goalscorers. But goalies are similar. If they keep goals out, they are likely to still be able to do it at higher levels. It's not like shots get dramatically harder the higher league you go into. Shots come from all angles with a lot of high balls to deal with in Leagues One and Two.
One thing that has changed with goalies, however, is they are now footballers. It's been going on a while and the current trend is attacking sweeper keepers. We've witnessed Henderson get better at it. I have no idea if Goodman is good at that side of the game. It's certainly the way we play.

Pace and passing ability matters more for strikers at the higher level but essentially I think your analysis is correct.

I often see people ignoring the fact that goalkeeping isn't an outfield position and it's true that essentially a good keeper in league two translates better to higher levels than a good midfield player in league two.

The differences in those levels are more mental than physical for keepers.

I left London in 1973 and lived in Kiddy from 1977 to 2010 and had a season ticket for many years. Paul Jones was a fabulous keeper at every level he played. He was once the subject of a "what happened next" on A Question of Sport (the shot went over his head, hit the bar, came out and hit him on the back of the head and went in the goal). Many young players on their way up go out on loan to League 2 or even the Conference. I saw Goodman play a game away at Morecambe playing for Colchester in 2022-23 and he was excellent and kept a clean sheet. The best player I saw on loan at Kiddy was Wes Morgan, future Premier League captain and winner with Leicester City. The best player I saw in the Conference was a 24 year old centre forward playing for Halifax Town, one Jamie Vardy. If you are good enough you can make the step up.

For sure that's right, it's been seen so many times. The point being made was that keepers are different from outfield players as the skills they will have at league two are more transferable than for outfield players.

A few sites saying we offered Mateta to Marseille (wtf!!) but they turned him down cos too expensive! One of the stranger rumours but also weird that a few places saying it.

Another one has linked us to Toon’s Lewis Miles who is prepared to leave for more first team football.

Thinking about a very out of favour player. Currently Grealish is lucky if he makes it to the bench. At £100M and £300K per week well out of our reach, but is he?

Not currently doing as well as some of our senior Academy players. Could that be where he should start at Palace?

Working at ten per cent (he might be considered to be around that level at the moment) we have:-

Season loan fee (10% of £10M) £1M, with additions.
Paid by us to City
£100,000 per goal - increasing to £2M if he reaches eleven
Option to buy at our top price so far paid (£30M) if he proves he is settled in South London - scoring 15 goals and starting at least every other match from March 2026.
Paid to him
£1,000 increase in wages per week for each start after five.
Paid by City
10% of increase in value from £10M
Agreed payment if in 2026 England Squad
More if starts and scores in World Cup Matches.

Jack would then be, once again, a top player, ready for another Palace season (at Palace wage rate) followed by a move to a top European Club.

I can't see it myself he's not a Palace type player.

He is more likely to go to Saudi or the US.

Would be a slightly backwards way of going about business. So as usual this will be complete and utter lies.

His agent maybe, I can't see why Palace would be keen to offload him.
