Strasbourg vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Give him time! He's already better than Kamada was after the same amount of time in the team. It makes no sense to criticise a player after three months.
Edit: Sorry, to write off a player.....
My only comment on that would be he shouldn’t be starting and might just need to make an affect coming off the bench. With that said it’s not the first match this season where we have missed one on ones and open goals as well as terrible final balls. Not sure this will change which I suppose that’s why they play for us. Yes Strasbourg were good but we played awful for big parts of this match. And that’s been in many matches this season but we have still got the results. Wolves being a good example of this :-(

they played nearly all the football, apart from the first ten minutes ,when we did our usual thing of playing great through the midfield before misfiring in the final third, we tended to go long and fight for knockdowns, but it worked OK. I've been supportive of Pino when he's been a bit outmuscled or not always clicked in previous games, but he was poor tonight. Wharton's entrance improved us, but those missed chances? Geeezzzz!!! 😕

Indeed we missed gilt-edged chances but overall we have been totally abject.
Munoz has had a very poor game, as has Sarr and Pino flatters to deceive.
Looking at the game at its entirety we have been decidedly second-best.
Strasbourg are a good team and if Glasner leaves, Rosenior would be a very good replacement.
Strasbourg have a proper stadium and are a bigger club than us with a better team and more pedigree - he ain't coming here.

I think the Prem would be a huge attraction for him no? His stock is quite high so perhaps he would maybe hope for a bigger Prem club to come in for him.

I hope we get a chance to face Strasbourg again in this competition and avenge this loss.

Glasner thinks we can wing this competition. Starting Lerma and Hughes and taking Mateta and Guehi off against a very good side was a recipe for disaster.
Yes, the Premier League is important but do we really want to end up in a play off to advance in this competition?
This is one we can win, but our finishing was a joke tonight and we must get better if we want to do something this season.

Nothing wrong with Glasners decisions tonight. As for Sarr and Wharton that’s the reason we come away with zero points tonight. No excuse for those two open goals missed. We would have been hailing Glasner if those players and others had taken their chances. Hopefully we learn from it and bring in a couple of first 11 players that can put chances away like those missed tonight?

Eze and Olise and Wilf are match winners... and that's what we are missing. Great squad, Yes, young talent 100%, but we are missing that x-factor at the moment.

It sounds weird but you don't need to be the better team to win a game. In days gone by that was often how we would win, but I think we just need a few play crap but still win results... I think that would just help us play with more freedom particularly in front of goal.

Special mention for Mitchell. Plays every game, defensively excellent and working to improve going forwards. Model pro and absolute diamond. Why he's not a shoe in for England beyond me.

They were the better team, we had the better chances.
So disappointing.

It comes to something when Mitchell is our best finisher in the game.

I don't think we should be in any rush to sell Guehi in January.
Their first goal came from the area that Guehi usually defends and in the second half we lost our composure defensively in his absence as well as missing his ability to bring the ball out of defence.

The open goal misses from Sarr and Wharton were inexcusable and it's clear that Pino's lack of goals in his career to date are for a reason.

We can't even point to misfortune.
Having a hand ball awarded against us when its kicked from a yard away was a bit harsh .That it led to the winning goal was a kick in the nuts . But its not an excuse just an observation

Before this game I expressed my opinion about Rosenior on HOL.
I stated that I admired his qualities as a coach and manager. For some time he has been in my thoughts as a worthy replacement for Glasner.

To be honest, I’m not that bothered. Not really interested in this competition - not sure the players are either.
I'm not that bothered either.

The money at Uefa might think it's a good idea to bleed the game to death; Super League by the back door but I don't. If I was Football King for the day, I'd make the Europa and Conference leagues just plain, two leg knockout cup competitions.

I'd sooner concentrate on the domestic competitions. I'm happy to put the conference down as part of our learning curve because I'm absolutely certain that the Euro-league format will continue. Until we have the resources to properly compete in that sphere, though, so be it.

The threat from Strasbourg came mainly down our right channel and it would appear they targeted this area.
Munoz has received many plaudits but in my humble estimation he was disappointing tonight.
Yeah. They got behind him, didn't they. I've often wondered why teams don't exploit the space he leaves when he's continuously pushing forward. I've supposed that Richard has always provided cover but tonight Munoz did look exposed.

They were quick at countering, weren't they.

Indeed they were and some of the movement and passing was a joy to behold.
A young vibrant team well coached.
Valentin Barco looked a class act, De Zerbi signed him for Brighton for just under £8 Mill and Rosenior signed him for £8.5 Mill. What a bargain !
