Soft Punishments for Serious Lawbreakers ?

Only one person coming off badly from this exchange. And it’s not you.
I appreciate your comments here.

I will only add one thing. When I was first diagnosed with prostate cancer it was a complete shock, coming totally out of the blue. I knew nothing about it and needed to learn fast.

I resolved then to share my experience with anyone I could because early intervention saves lives and early intervention requires knowledge. Getting a PSA check and/or being aware of the common warning signs, like needing to pee more than once during the night, is important.

So I don’t mind coming off badly.

Best of luck with it all. I think there needs to be different opinions on boards otherwise there is no debate.
Can I ask a question to try to get this thread back on track? Have you, Wisbech Eagle, never seen a court case (for example in your local paper) where someone has committed several offences of a relatively serious nature but has clearly not been punished sufficiently? I would think we all see it all the time.
I always think prison overcrowding comes into it but it shouldn't. I noticed a guy who had several sexual assault cases on public transport against him, was out on bail for the entire time. How is that ok? For example. I can't imagine you'd agree with that.
Or is the court just always correct as far as you're concerned? Which would be ludicrous.

Genuinely why I don’t bother here now (despite being a member for like 15 years I think).

You get dog’s abuse. I stick up for you I get abuse. Mod (singular) makes a token comment and does nothing. QED.

This board used to be popular for a good reason. Now it’s the opposite for a good reason.

What a whiny soy.

Just who do you think is a convicted landlord?

Just in case you think it was me let me assure you I have never been convicted of anything. Especially to do with my rental properties. I have never even been charged. Losing a fraudulent insurance claim didn’t mean I was convicted of an offence! I wasn’t charged with one! The claimant was awarded damages in a civil action.

If I were going to call you a convicted landlord I would have.

How about you read the post instead of reading into the post.

Although not addressed to me as it’s about me, let me answer. I have had prostate cancer since 2010. Having had it removed I was told 3 years later I was cancer free, only to be told a year later it was back. Salvage radiotherapy killed most of it but it’s still there and growing slowly. It’s not yet affecting my daily life. Getting older will take care of that. I am otherwise fit, active and determined. I don’t do sitting around too well and having multi tasked most of my life see no reason to stop now. Yes I am a landlord and try hard to be a responsible one. It takes a few hours each week, enough to make me self employed. There being no gas in my rental properties.

I want to be treated like anyone else! I would like everyone to be treated with respect. Something that some other posters constantly fail to do.

I was 81 this year. Something that often surprises those encountering me for the first time. Indeed someone only this week said he thought I was 60! I don’t think he was trying to flatter me either. I still play bowls at least twice a week during the winter. Once outside in all weathers and once indoors. I am continuing to improve every year and for the third year in a row reached a County semi final. Not yet a final though. That’s the next target.

As you know I think your opinions are not only awful but I think....in terms of which ones have been adopted by the country over the last thirty years.....have damaged the country in multiple ways, perhaps permanently. But this isn't the post for going on about that.

For you personally, I wish no physical ill, if what you say is true about yourself then I wish you well insomuch as that's the decent thing. We are all involved in battles against nature in our lives and obviously your battle, as is true for others, is pretty serious.

If you are enjoying life playing bowls in your hypocritical life in Cornwall, good for you.

As for considering yourself a victim on here and Dan coming on here 'white knighting' you and slagging off the site while doing it I'll tell you that I think that's ridiculous.

You mostly use the site for troll purposes and this is your MO, you did it on Catholic forums before here and you probably do it elsewhere as well. I suspect that you aren't right in the head....not stupid, but pretty fecked up regardless. If that's what you want to spend your time in your 80s doing....that's for you.

I give respect to those that I consider worthy of it.

You get a voice on here.....the opposite version of you wouldn't get a voice on lefty or socially liberal sites where your views are approved of......So this idea of 'respect'! You get a voice....that's far more respect than is given to the silenced.

yep, he is constantly posting things like " anyone with a brain " etc to describe those whop disagree with this contrarian TDS garbage.

Dan H is similarly " look at me the good guy " , drivel

Back on topic what is the point of the justice system?

In my opinion it is to punish and stop re-offending. Clearly our current system is not working.

Would you give out 2 different punishments for the same crime, say theft? Yes is my answer (two tier Badger).

Person 1 is long term unemployed / on benefits, petty criminal.

Person 2 is employed by a major financial institution and has no record.

Person 1 I would send to jail as clearly other forms of punishments have not worked up to that point (repeat offender) so they need to understand their behaviour has consequences.

Person 2 I would give a suspended sentence. Why? Because they will lose their job and probably never be allowed to work for an FI again (happened to a friend, ruined his nice middle class life and marriage).

Not jailing person 1, where is the punishment. Their life will continue as normal still collecting their benefits etc. In other words there is no punishment.

Jailing Person 2 is over kill. Their life as they know it is in ruins, my mate ended up working in a garden centre on minimum wage, the only job he could get.

In general most offenders fall into the person 1 category. They have nothing to lose or fear from the justice system so they keep reoffending. Shoplifters often have 20 or more convictions before they are sent to jail.

We need to build more jails.

So what do you do with people once they are in jail? I have no problem with the system trying to help addicts kick their habit, or educating people so they can not go back to crime etc. But first you have to lock them up.

I say again, corporal punishment for many instead of jail time, it works well in Singapore and Malaysia.

Ferrel youth would think twice if they were looking at a caning for doing horrible things

The criminality and drug use within prisons is staggering
