Scintillating U21's

Another financial benefit , which can also be considered when calculating the Academy Return On Investment, is how much Academy players are paid v. players signed from other clubs.

As an example, Curtis Jones at Liverpool was on £15k a week and he was playing alongside players on 10x that.

Obviously, once that type of player proves himself then a new contract is usually negotiated
According to capology Devenney is on 3,000 a week. I won't bother reminding you all of Kamada's. Of course, if we had retained O'Brien the value of the Academy would have been much enhanced

Hopefully, the club will keep both Goodman & Whitworth, but, as for replacing Mathews, who is going to be our No3 non-playing 'keeper, Whitworth, Goodman? I doubt that. You forget, that Turner, who is our current No2, is in on loan, both the youngsters are capable of being our No2(imo).
I'd be amazed if we don't sign another 'senior' keeper to sit between Henderson and Whitworth/Goodman this summer - quite possibly just making Turner's stay a permanent one.

Didn't he sign an extension quite recently..? Surely we bumped him up to a more competitive salary at that stage!

PS in all this justifiable happiness, no-one has explained to me how and why our U21s were thumped 10-0 by the Weed. Now, there is a bad day at the office, and then...

It never happened.

Solved it.

Reality was having a cheese sandwich that day and wasn't taking notice.

Not only is that a good point but you have answered your own head on.

Perhaps you should start a new thread where you are just chatting with yourself.

😉

Possibly. Why tho, would Whitworth/Goodman want to be a No3 keeper here? Mathews is made for the job, let him keep it, & only on £3.5k pw apparently.
Because they're young with time on their side and we have fantastic facilities and coaching.

Realistically if they're wanting to go and be a number one somewhere, I can't see that happening above League One, so there's plenty to be said in sticking around and learning your trade here.

I don't expect we'll keep them both.

I feel like that with the majority of my posts !

I did a bit of research in between posts, hence the wages example.

Ultimately though I reckon our Academy will be lucky if it’s breaking even given that we haven’t sold anyone for ‘ big ‘ money since the £20m+ investment plus the running costs.

The average annual cost of running a Category 1 Academy is £3.5m

I've no idea what the Palace financials look like in terms of breaking even etc., but I would hazard a guess that it's not making any money.
In an interview soon after the upgraded academy opened (possibly the one with Gary Neville) SP mentioned the overall cost was £30m and the ongoing running costs, including wages, was £5m per annum.

I strongly suspect we are running at a heavy loss and are budgeting to do so.

Getting an AWB every 10 years or so is difficult to predict.

More than worth it's money.....We have some good talent in both U18s and U21s.

I think we have at least two or three future first teamers already there and that saves on a lot of money.
