Lyon are looking for a new manager and Lens might be looking too soon after being battered 1-9 by Como. Both clubs adore Sage. For whatever reason(s) it doesnt seem to working out for him here. Maybe we can save ourselves a pay off if they want him back.

It wasnt great tonight and i fear for us against Liverpool if he picks that defence against them. No idea whats happened with Disasi today but all the red cards point to a frustrated camp dont they.
We’re likely to do swap deal. Lens get sage and we’ll take their manager who has just lost 1-9.

He’s stopped trying to gee the players up from the bench. Just stands there looking bemused. I think he knows it’s over and once we get hammered on Sunday it will be…..

Posting this here rather than in the match thread.

Genuine question for all the Sage-in supporters. Can somebody honestly explain something to me?

Putting aside the fact that recruitment hasn’t been particularly strong, why do we persist with exactly the same system, game after game, when it so clearly isn’t working?

Look at Hoffenheim. They managed to go from one end of the pitch to the other almost unchallenged. Our full-backs are too high, our defenders dive in, and enormous gaps open up behind them. We’ve all identified this as a problem, yet somehow our esteemed French coach apparently hasn’t.

Surely the first thing you do when you haven’t got the players to execute your preferred system is make yourselves difficult to beat? Lock it down. Keep your shape. Perhaps, as a revolutionary tactical innovation, try not conceding in the first 20 minutes.

Instead, we go hell for leather up the pitch, lose possession and ten seconds later we’re picking the ball out of our own net. And it’s hardly an isolated incident.

The alternative isn’t much better. When we do sit deeper, any opposition free kick around our box becomes an invitation to score. Our back post is more welcoming than the average brothel.

So this is my genuine question to those who still support Sage.

If you haven’t got the tools at your disposal to play fast, expansive football, why are you insisting on doing it? Why are the full-backs constantly pushed so high? Why persist with zonal marking when we clearly can’t execute it? And why, when the same defensive problems occur every single week, does absolutely nothing change?

Surely the first priority is to stop conceding goals?

I genuinely don’t think Sage knows how to set a team up to shut a game down. He appears to have one approach, and if it doesn’t work, the solution is simply to try it again.

We’re making a side sitting 12th in the German league, and with no disrespect to German football, look like prime Brazil at times. The uncomfortable truth is that some of the points we’ve picked up this season have owed considerably more to the opposition being bloody awful than anything we’ve done particularly well.

For me, this experiment has failed.

The only reason I wouldn’t make a change immediately is that I wouldn’t particularly fancy throwing a new manager into Sunday’s game against Liverpool. Frankly, I can see them putting seven or eight past us if we approach it in the same way.

There is, however, one saving grace.

I’ve been betting on Palace to concede inside the first ten minutes for the last ten games, and financially speaking, Sage is proving to be one of the finest managers I’ve ever encountered.
To be honest sage is a good coach but when you have a shower of s*** to work with thats the result

Still Sage in.

We could and should have won 3-1 tonight if Kamada and Pino learned how to finish. Even the goal we scored was an awful shot straight at the keeper that went between his legs haha.

Could have also lost 1-3. Every time the opposition break or have a set piece, they could get a chance. It's not good enough. This system and tactics will never work with the players we have. It's like a roll of the dice the whole time. Nothing is stable.

But they didn't. Apart from the goal and the worldie save from Henderson, they created nothing that really got the heart racing. If you have the ball, it's the best form of defense in the world. We just need to keep working on it - we've only had 9 bloody weeks together.

There are no signs it’s getting any better under him. If anything it’s getting worse and players’ performances are going down hill. As others have said it’s just so unstable and lacking any control. I really cannot see what the patterns of play are. If we could see some sort of template emerging or something getting better the longer he is here you might give him a chance but you can’t. There has been no progress whatsoever in his time here. He’s got to go and the sooner the better.

Must be the Auckland air, or the water, or the isolation.

We also haven't had the ball much, nor are we showing any ability to hold onto the ball. We look unconvincing when we do have it, with the odd good moment. Usually leading to nothing. But, at the back, that's awful. The set pieces alone are unforgivable. Look at the long throws today. That is without our weakness behind the wing backs. Where the goal came from today. We're not good enough. We're not the sum of our parts. This could be a solid side. We don't really need to do this.
