I wanted Sage out after the Brighton match and not just because of getting stuffed. I, like many saw it coming after the Forrest win which we should also have lost by a hatful. Only the Leeds match this season did we look like a decent team. I also didn’t think we did as well as we should have on Thursday night where we played a team that made 9 changes after losing their last match. I’m fairly sure if they hadn’t got a player sent off we would have lost. Let’s hope Sage now he has a settled back 3 tomorrow and going forward can get us a win to save his job as the matches after tomorrow before the next international break are looking much harder to get results in our favour. Matetta being back and hopefully Sarr might just be our saving grace. If we win tomorrow I’m willing to give him longer before feeling as I did after Brighton that he should be replaced. I’m not hopeful but then I’m not sure our best 11 is good enough anymore to keep us up for any manager coming in. But unlike Sage, they just might make us harder to get beat, we shall see and let’s hope we do beat Newcastle tomorrow. I don’t think I’m confident enough to know what’s best for us today :-(
I’m sticking with what I said yesterday, Sage must go and now! Even if it means McCarthy as caretaker until we find another manager who hopefully will set up Palace to be tighter rather than one that makes so many errors? Not saying this present squad will stay up with someone else at the helm but Sage will take us down for sure. He has to go I’m afraid :-(

Is Sage a bad manager?
Probably not, and he may well be successful elsewhere in the future.

Is Sage the right manager for us at present?
The overwhelming evidence is no.

It hasn’t looked a good fit almost from Day 1 with briefings against him from as early as September.
He has his ideas and some players will already have switched off from him.
A restart is needed with a clean slate for everyone which only a new manager can bring.
We have to bring the hunger and desire back in the squad.
We need a fresh pair of eyes to fix our defensive shortcomings and first and foremost look solid.
It’s fair to suggest the new players may not be good enough, but the problem now is that even the players who we know are good enough from previous seasons look out of sorts.

I think the most likely scenario is for the change to be made in the international break.

I would not want to be in the trenches with some of the bedwetters on here tonight.

Show some resilience.
“Sarge. Don’t you think we might want to try a different tactic than running headlong through a minefield and straight at a machine gun nest. Not questioning your orders or anything but the fact 250,000 of my mates have been gunned down and we’ve advanced 2mm might suggest we try a different approach”

“You a bed wetter private?”

The pool of available managers that are prepared to come to us, dig us out of trouble, return us to sustainability and win again in the the Glasner style (which apparently everyone now regards as an absolute given) is remarkably shallow... in fact you would be optimistic to call it a puddle.

We really need to be pragmatic in a huge transition phase or end up like W Ham or worse, Leicester.

Where is the evidence to support your first paragraph?
None of us have any idea who may or not be interested in the job and what sort of a job they may do.
Not conceding 2 goals every game would be a start.

It’s not a question of trying to emulate Glasner style success, but it’s more a recognition that you can’t concede at least 2 goals every game and win too many games which we are doing under Sage.
Defend as unit, shield the defence, don’t leave wide open spaces behind the wing backs, stop the crosses, stop being outnumbered in midfield, don’t leave players unmarked at set pieces, stop using Wharton to mark their tallest player at corners etc etc.
It’s the same every game and it won’t change.

If something isn’t working it’s better to acknowledge and deal with it rather than worry about West Ham or Leicester and their travails.

This is all the evidence i need!

Who is the replacement that will sort our defence out, have us score goals and would be pleased to join Palace?

Give me names and then I'll vote
Under most circumstances this would not only be a reasonable approach, but probably the only sensible one.

I do wonder, though, if we're in one of those situations where just not having Sage would be a boost in itself? Like when United did much better as soon as Amorim had gone?

If only I had a crystal ball... Although I'd probably walk funny in cold weather.
