We're in a transitional period. Still in Europe, and but for a shocking ref would have got something against a top French side, we lost to the Weed who thrashed Arsenal and Villa and I hate to say it are on fire. Stop panicking everyone, we're 7 games in with new players and coaching staff. If we're still struggling at Christmas then Santa may have to think about a new manager under the tree 🎁 In my humble opinion we'll come good in the next few weeks🦅
How many years is it that we have been in transition for now..................... Let me think.

Directors think with clear heads and not knee-jerk reactions. There is a slow-burn solution

We need to remember that;

1) Sage lost 3/4 of his most experienced defenders for more than the last month ( Tomiyasu / Riad / Disasi )
2) Disasi, Khalaili and Anahor are still bedding in
3) The system is still bedding in
4) The system is getting us goals without the two players who scored most of our goals last season
5) The club will surely buy a quality and pacy CB in January
6) Basic defensive errors are the fault of players, not a system or manager
7) Even with all those problems, we are treading water, not cut off at the bottom like with FDB

Finally, most of those problems are fixed by time. Which is what we need to give this manager. He will bring us success.

And we have Mateta and Sarr to bring up to fitness, Pino and Kamada playing even better than last season and Timber already proving his worth. And Doucoure hopefully challenging for starts too -our twice POTY.

Let's not meltdown just yet.

Coulda woulda shoulda might have been if only. The table doesn't lie - we're didn't and in Brighton's case they did..
Exactly - and we're 14th and not rooted to the bottom, nor even in the bottom 3 - unlike Sunderland, Notts Forest and Fulham. Basically, it's far too early to determine our fate. Obviously, if we are still leaking chances and goals in the 6 games before the International Break (only 3 of which are in the league) then Sage's position may become terminal but if we see signs of defensive improvement during that run then Sage should be given further time.

I'm on the fence still. Yes Sunday was a shocker. It's clear where the problem lies. I'd still give him 2-3 more League games to work on our defensive frailties. If there's no sign of improvement, maybe it's time for a change. In the background, I'd also be getting a brief together for my recruiter to suss out who's available within the criteria we need, ensuring no one with the initials SD makes the shortlist.

How did we play so well against Leeds - should maybe have won one nil, but have been so bad against Forest first half and Brighton? What was so different? Just the way Leeds played?
I don’t think there is any great mystery to this. It was the one game we changed the tactics to drop the wing backs deeper, put an extra man in midfield and dropped Wharton deeper so he had time and could collect it from the back line.

It is actually one of the things that concerns me about Sage. He played a system against Leeds that worked and then jettisoned it to go back to what had failed. That could be stubbornness, stupidity or both. Either way it makes me worry about what he is trying to do

Basic errors may be on individuals but having the worst defence in the division, no control in games and constantly conceding chances is absolutely the fault of the system and the manager.

I disagree. You don't know what conditions the Manager is working under.
Even Palace's most successful manager called the Board decisions out.

Throw a bag of nuts and bolts and a shopping trolley at an F1 engineer, and tell him to build a winning F1 car in a season. Ain't gonna happen

We still have untried players like Osorio and Gozo playing in the starting 11 or at least 30 mins each . And the unknown Cheick factor . Im expecting Sarr and Mateta to get up to 90% at least . So things could dramatically change for the better , but we cant bank on that

And bear in mind that City will almost certainly be gone at the end of the season as well

No, but if you throw those same nuts and bolts at a binman you've got even less chance!

Great analogy. I’m nicking that 👍

I would honestly prefer 3 points and a clean sheet against Newcastle. 😅
Well I've decided its too soon to sack Sage, so please close the thread now.😉
I reckon the club make the decisions on transfers more than the manager at Palace these days as well anyway.
The decision to sack is a two sided coin, if SP sacks Sage who is there to come in? Midway through the season there are few, if any low hanging fruit except for Eddie Howe and Thomas Frank. Wait a few more games at least, Glasner might be available again😉

I wonder how many of us have been in the position in the workplace to "sort a problem".
Do we think it would be because we are the best person to sort the issues ?
Or would we be the most expendable options to fail and replace?

I really don't think the CPFC Directors gave it any thought

I think Pep’s legacy has been tarnished by the fact that Man City’s cheating has been exposed. The only way for him to rebuild it would be to come back and win at a club like Palace 😉

I mean he’s been on record talking about how much he loves Selhurst….
Well, I suppose Strand-Larsen is probably a 'false 9'.

In fact, at times he seems positively fraudulent....
