Romain Esse

The problem is JHB, not many of us have seen the ability to which you refer.
I was ecstatic when we got him from Celtic and even his first bit here was pretty decent all told. However, it quickly went pear shaped.

He is still only 27 years old and has time to get that form back. With that being said, I don't see that happening here and would love to get some money on him, even at a substantial loss.

You may get the substantial loss bit 😳

Esse’s sounds like a confident young man who believes he’s good enough to be in the PL. He seems to enjoy a free role where he can find space and talks about using his instinct. Interesting that OG switched to a 442 so he an Nketiah could come on with Eze and Mateta. He gives us that option but also could come on for Eze in games and indeed might be his replacement should he move on in the summer.

Might become his replacement before the summer if Eze doesn't buck his ideas up. It was like he was playing in slow motion yesterday.

Was impressed with Esse's enthusiasm and running off the ball. Pre goal he made a great run across to the left channel, and then smart enough to get in the right area for the goal.

Eze on the other hand seams stuck to the left hand side, is that a strict tactical decision. You'd never see him popping up at the opposite back post for a tap in

What bothers me is Devenny played, scored, is better than Kamada by quite some distance, yet we still see Kamada every week. So Esse has come on, scored, is miles better than Kamada, so it's Kamada to be wheeled out again next week. Same for Nketiah.

This is what’s always made me think that this was a managers signing and he might have had to do a lot of persuading Dougie and SP to bring him on board. So now he feels like he has to persevere with him in the hope that he’ll come good

In defence of OG he dropped Kamada relatively quickly when he saw how he was performing. Did the same with Nketiah. I don’t think many of us would have suggested Hughes as a regular starter at the start of the season but OG has played him due to his form. So OG has played people largely on merit and reflected that in his selections

Is he though? I don't think so at all - Kamada's 90 minutes last week was better than anything I've seen from Devenny so far.

Similarly, concluding that Esse is "miles better" than Kamada after 8 minutes and 3 touches doesn't feel fair.

Fair comment, but I suppose it’s the fact that he gets back in the team after being dropped that surprises a lot of people.
Although to be fair after comfortably beating West Ham and kamada’s slight improvement in that game, we was surprised he DIDN’T start yesterday. Old Ollie likes to keep us on our toes 😀
