Reform

The idiot of a prime minister has "conceded that people were not yet feeling the benefits of a Labour government".

I think the prat's idea of benefits are wrecking the economy, destroying the country and cosying up to brussels.

The only benefit labour could give us is to go and do one...
Ha ha! Not bad for less than a year in office: a near bloody miracle. Think what the Tories could have done in 14 years.

Oh... hang on...

Like our emissions compared to other countries in the world then; but you keep banging on about how badly we are affecting the environment. A drop in the ocean of emissions I guess !!!
I don’t actually “bang on” about that at all. I acknowledge that our contribution is small compared to the big polluters but as part of the responsible free world we have a duty to lead and demonstrate how this can be done. There are also economic opportunities in finding effective ways to transverse to cleaner systems.

I recently changed my car to a full EV and am very impressed. I wonder now why on earth the industry didn’t do this years ago. It has made driving a pleasure again. Smooth, responsive and so easy to drive in a relaxing way. Very simple engine with no moving parts so little to go wrong. Full of technology that it almost drives itself.

Get to London while you can still drive it without paying.

As I haven’t driven in central London for over 20 years I don’t think this will make a difference. If I go to London these days I use public transport. Much more efficient. If there is something that really irritates me it’s searching for a parking place!

It will make a difference to others who've bought an electric car thinking they wouldn't have to pay £75 a week to drive it.

Need to look for the silver lining in. Proof that this was never about 'air-quality'. It was ideological combined with a selfish need to booster TfL finances.

The actual role of the London Mayor is not all all encompassing as people might think. Essentially it is really just a glorifed public transport organisation. With TfL in a pretty deep financial hole. Hence Khan wanting to drive (no pun intended) people on to it rather than driving in.

With this latest stunt just the final proof of that. Ditto with them now charging using Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels.

The motorist is deemed to be a non-Labour voter. Therefore a Labour Mayor will always punish them. Khan is very much a dichotomy politician. He loathes those who will not vote for him as much as they loathe him and will never do anything for them other than get them to pay up to support those he champions.

And there is an honesty in that.

Watched an interview of a former Tory counsellor on the local news.

Lost her seat and thought people were only voting based on national issues. In our area the council was crap, I personally voted independent and for two people who live in the town I’m in and are good on local issues.

However what stand out was telling was what she said about the voters who went for Reform

“These people need to be shown the bigger picture in a way they can understand”

So basically implying all Reform voters are morons. A bit like with Brexit where anyone who countenanced the idea of voting for it was a thick racist. The arrogance is astounding and you know what calling someone thick probably isn’t the way to get them to vote for you .

It's a lesson the Democrats haven't learned yet.

I thought the charge was always more about congestion than air quality. Offering an incentive to go electric being secondary. Perhaps they think that EVs now offer enough on their own so there is no longer the need to offer incentives.

Sure. 6.3% are plug in vehicles. Job done there then.

It certainly does feel like the disconnect between electorate and elected representatives (would they be better as delegates?) is widening. Your post brought to mind this quote.

I suspect postponing may local elections until May 2026 will turn out to be a massive own goal for Labour.

I think the Govt will be even more detested in 12 months time.

If Reform can improve the services or finances in councils they now control, even more so

I can see a few bumps in the road for Farage, firstly his close relationship with Trump will be a minus as we go forward it might taint Farage.Secondly he will need to dream up a few more policies, when the british people digest them the honeymoon will end.Thirdly his party is full of unsavoury scallywags with very dubious track records.Fourthly the Tory Party might not roll over and die as quickly as he wants. The next election is a long way off but a divided right wing may well see Labour get in again.

Who are the unsavoury characters? Can you name them and say why they are unsavoury.?

Every party is full of them as is the current Govt , certainly Reform had problems with vetting previously.

The next election is indeed a long way off, May 2026 will be the next real measure of how the Govt is doing.

It’s a gamble by labour unless they really didn’t think reform would do so well. Alternatively they start to look for ways to attack them and try to split or disband them. Like in Italy with the right over there. If reform actually perform and get s*** done labour will be totally fecked in another year. If many councils are reform then 2TK will not be able to control the narrative apart from reducing funding which I wouldn’t put past them. Although that would be public in minutes.
Interesting times especially if the anti immigrant hotels gets traction.
