It's been abused a million times. I was completely on the side of the miners. Did they treat me with consent at the football? Are protests all treated respectfully? Both sides of the political spectrum are not happy with it. I could go on but to little point.

They can't even search a person without recorded consent and if they used handcuffs, quite likely they would have a tricky legal case to contend with afterwards which would eat into their security budget.

If a young girl is being sexually assaulted and a simple "stop that" stops it and allows her to get away and the body cam footage is used to get them off the street or deported (unlikely) then I think that's money at least well spent?

These private security patrols are part of an anticipated need for escalation at the political level when one of these asylum-seeker dodgepots goes AWOL on one of these shopping trips.

The minute one absconds and vanishes then Reform get to crow that the Detention Centre Guards and the Police can't be trusted and at least Reform were trying their best with private militia patrols. They will claim a belts and braces approach is still failing and that the detention camps should be shut down. They are just waiting for 1 laddie not to get back to the minibus on time.
