Reform

Oil and gas subsidies are far in excess of any green subsidies.

If you were to abolish big oil subsidy your bills would be unaffordable. Right now leccy £per kW is linked to gas production cost rather than the far cheaper renewable production cost.

EDIT

In 2024, the UK's green energy subsidies, primarily through the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, reached record highs, with total payments for renewable energy funding rising to approximately £2.4 billion

The UK government currently provides an estimated £17.5 billion in fossil fuel subsidies and support per year.

FURTHERMORE....

The UK government’s move to award £22bn in subsidies to carbon capture projects followed a sharp increase in lobbying by the fossil fuel industry. Oil and gas giants such as Equinor, BP, and ExxonMobil attended 24 of 44 external ministerial meetings to discuss carbon capture and storage (CCS) in 2023, according to official transparency records....

As for Lithium, it's widely available. And I think you mean Cobolt, not Boron, which is being phased out as battery tech develops. But I'll tell you something, Cobolt has been used in large quantities for decades as a catalyst for removing sulphates from oil during the refining process. I don't remember you complaining about that.

Used batteries are 99% recyclable, it would be a total waste of those metals not to. It can already be done but it's a new industry because batteries are only just beginning end of life. There are ways being developed of servicing older batteries, "washing" them, so they perform again as new. Tesla take old car batteries and use them in their power station stores as they are perfectly fine for that role.

I don't buy EVs as a 'solution' to anything, I think we're already 30 years too late and f***ed, but please don't insult me by trying to put some equivalency between green tech and oil, that's just f***ing embarassing.
Blimey your bed must have a right side 😂

If you put your oven on and keep turning up the temperature knob then it gets hotter inside. All Net Zero is, that we will MISS, is that you stop turning the knob. When you've been turning up the knob on your oven and you stop turning it what happens to the temperature? Does it fall? No, it rises until it reaches the temperature you set it to.

So yeah, we're f***ed. The knob needs to be turned DOWN right now and even then there will be lag. That means REMOVING more CO2 from the atmosphere than we are putting into it and that isn't going to happen, and even if by some miracle it did then it wouldn't be nearly the rate at which we've been pumping it in for the past 70 years.

f***ed.

Blackshirt Nigel is saying silly stuff again, massive cuts to welfare, pensions will be slashed meaning 43% of the electorate will suffer, not a good stance for a politician, retraction meeting (as usual) tomorrow. alienating 43% of the electorate is a typically knee jerk Nigel thing to do.Utterly stupid, all he will do is take tory votes and Labour will get in for another Five years. 😉 😉 😉

So you are calling Farage a "fascist", so you think all the Reform supporters are Fascist supporters.

You wouldn't know what a fascist was unless an antifa supporter fell on you

I love it when socialists support a policy like mass immigration that makes the average person poorer, damages communities, and makes the rich richer.

Then they criticise someone who wants to try and fix the problem.

It makes you wonder if they have any brains at all.

So he went on ignore a long time ago not worth debating with someone that rabid.
Possibly, but he has a right to his rabidity (word?).

There is a far worse poster who I ignore as he is downright nasty and personal but, for some reason, has so far escaped any censure from the monitors.

You, on the other hand, fell into the very wide margin of behaviour category the moment I learned you were a fellow Powell/Pressburger fan.

With the number of dodgy curries I had this weekend I reckon I must have more than made up for any CO2 savings from green initiatives this year.

I see that Ed Davey is not ruling out a deal with Labour to stop Reform from forming a government (should the maths work that way).
Interesting that both France and Germany (?) have done similar things to prevent Le Pen and the AFD from gaining power.
This will just result in further polarisation of views. The Con/Lib coalition was hardly a major success after keeping Labour out…

I'd like a reform /tory coalition. It would be like two ferrets in a sack.
