Reform

So a reform MEP colludes with Russia and barely a mention from our media yesterday or on here BTW.

BBC 'hide' this in the Wales section of the news yet they are so lefty aren't they.

Our media is no better than the US now, where Trump is doing his best to suppress free speech
You lefties are really worried about Reform.

I'm loving it.

what a strange response.

The point of my post was to point out that all these claims of lack of freedom of speech etc and left wing bias are almost always made by right leaning people/organisations and often without justification.

In fact often the opposite is the case as the almost non reporting of a senior Reform leader colluding with a foreign enemy.

We currently have the US (Trump and Vance) regularly 'promoting' free speech when they are actively suppressing any challenge - banning some press organisations from white house briefings, putting pressure on news outlets e.g the Washington Post and of course Musk controlling what is published/promoted on twitter.

It's a bit like the often left bias of say Question Time. In fact the opposite is true as proven below. Farage has supposedly been on it more than any other person during the time when he wasn't an MP yet he argues the opposite.

The Question Time bias question

Question Time has long been accused of bias towards both the left and right – usually a good indication of balance.

But the overuse of rightwing guests, as identified in our analysis, supports some of these claims of a lack of impartiality. The regular appearances of panellists such as Isabel Oakeshott and Julia Hartley-Brewer – the two most frequent non-politician guests in our analysis – raise questions about how producers choose guests.

It is worth pointing out that there is nothing wrong with the BBC inviting guests from these organisations, nor is there anything wrong with political writers from The Spectator discussing the political issues of the day. However, the lack of counterbalancing narratives from leftwing publications is notable.

If you are trying to convice us that the BBC is not riddled with leftist, liberal woke types then it isn't working.
Trump has suffered an endless totally biased attack from the majority of the media in a way never seen before. It's no wonder he is fighting back.

The current Left tactic is to claim the Right love Russia and make it look like Kier Starmer is being tough on Putin and preparing for a Russian invasion.

It's a lot of phooey.

You talk of phooey and post this!

You cannot be serious.

The bias of the right about the BBC is so obvious that it hardly needs explaining. That they constantly bang on about it says volumes about them and nothing at all about the BBC.

The reason Trump gets shredded is because of his behaviour. Everyone with an ounce of decency and integrity feels like that, whatever their personal politics. In all my 80 years I have not witnessed anyone more deserving of such treatment and that includes some extremely unpleasant characters.

Starmer is showing respect for the office of President. What he thinks privately will have to wait for the memoirs.

That Trump is handing Putin gifts and doing private deals behind the back of the allies of the USA is as equally obvious as it is foolish. Putin has 10 times the political nous of Trump and is playing him like a fish.

That the right see all of this as a victory just demonstrates how short term their thinking is. Putin is not your friend either. You are his servants.

I literally had the Police knocking at my door because of things I said on here. I think of the country I grew up in and then I read this comment and I seriously don't think the statement, 'often without justification' is fair.

The damage done to free speech in this country is an embarrassment to the nation that gave it to the world.

What does this refer to?

Actively suppressing any challenge? What are you talking about? The Trump administration have a daily briefing....unlike the Biden administration.......At that briefing many of the reporters are opposed to them. Don't you watch these things. To say they are 'suppressing any challenge' is widely hyperbolic. Obama banned far more right wing outlets from briefings than Trump ever did yet I never heard this stuff then.

As for putting pressure on news outlets....again, it's like the last ten years didn't happen. Also, what 'pressure', as far as I can see the owners of these media organs are adapting to Trump just as they adapted to Obama and Biden....they do what's in their financial interests, no one is saying what they can and can't print.

As for Musk buying Twitter, far fewer people are now banned on that than was the case before.....so I just don't get that comment as some criticism of double standards on free speech.

It's a bit like the often left bias of say Question Time. In fact the opposite is true as proven below. Farage has supposedly been on it more than any other person during the time when he wasn't an MP yet he argues the opposite.

As far as I'm aware the argument is that the right wing view is under represented......But personally I couldn't really say as I don't watch Question Time anymore.

LOL.

So Lowe starts to gain traction and then this happens. Reform eat one of their own. It would have a certain tragic beauty to it if it were not so predictable.

Ladies and Gentlemen. Proof, if any more were needed after Reform decided upon a Muslim chairman, that Farage and co AIN'T coming to the rescue.

No voting our way out of this! 😎

Elon musk also stuck his nose into reform and endorsed Lowe a couple of weeks ago over Farage.

Very interesting anyway how this plays out.

Definitely a factor. I am also now convinced that the powers-that-be in the UK are genuinely looking at the future with some trepidation. And looking to head off potential REAL change which Lowe may well have been able to be part of instigating.

Lowe has a unique chance here. To lead from the front. Suspect they will conjure up some kind of prosecution of Lowe and instigating a re-call procedure to get him out but he can still make a lot of noise.

Let's see.

That was obviously before my time here, and I have been a long time, so I have no idea what caused this. Perhaps you could repost so an objective response be given. Kindly include the context!

The problem with some on the right is that they seem to think anything goes, when it most certainly does not. Any post which expresses hatred towards minorities or incentivises violence is potentially illegal. Wherever it appears. Expressing views about others which are unquestionably untrue is libel.

A warning from the police over such transgressions should be welcomed as a shot across the bows before things really get out of hand.

In a democracy there is no such thing as an absolute right to say whatever you want wherever you choose. There is only freedom of speech under the law.

The trouble with X is that most of those who produced serious criticism of Trump have upped and left, because they could no longer see the point into trying to argue with sycophants with minds so firmly closed they truly regard Trump as a messiah.

It’s now just a pointless echo chamber of right wing garbage.

I’m amazed you didn’t know as you were on here 5 years before Stirling and I remember his posts about it and I’ve been here for a lot less time. Maybe that selective memory is coming out to play!

Time to accept that Farage has just been a containment ploy all along (that admittedly went horribly wrong in 2016).
