Reform

Danny Kruger, the shadow work and pensions minister defects to Reform.

With it he makes some telling statements.

'The Conservatives were no longer the main party of opposition'.

'There have been moments when I have been very proud to belong to the Tory party but the rule of our time in office was failure'.

'Bigger government, social decline, lower wages, higher taxes and less of what ordinary people actually wanted.'

'The Conservative Party is over, over as a national party, over as the principal opposition to the left.'

But what he says next is I think the main reason why the Conservatives are doomed.....They had a chance and they blew it....the blue rinsers literally killed their own party and are doing a 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil'.......When they should have been going balls to the wall....Jenrick times three.

He said the Tory party had a 'toxic brand', adding: 'We have had a year of stasis and drift and the sham unity that comes from not doing anything bold or difficult or controversial.'

For my mind it started with May and her, 'the nasty party' speech and the blue rinsers lapped it up....Cameron, Johnson, Sunak.....suicide.
Freddy's son.

However they frame it, this is a massive blow for the Tories.

I almost feel sorry for Badenoch. She is not the problem.

I respectfully disagree. We are not 'Birds on the same twig' on this matter.
Reform are inheriting members of the last government that the public did not want !
Defections are hardly unexpected after a party has suffered a catastrophic defeat, has lost the trust of the electorate, are in the midst of an extensive 'Policy Renewal Programme' and there are those attracted to one-note opportunists who simply catch the prevailing mood. Reform might seem like a political oasis but it is a mirage.
Apropos Badenoch, I never voted for her and at this juncture I would not wager that she will lead my party into the General Election.

I'm not suggesting that Badenoch is the right person to win the next election, but truthfully no on one will make that happen.
Kruger might have been part of the last government, but he was not the cause of its downfall as I'm sure you know. His defection and statement demonstrates his disillusionment with the current state of his former party and the direction he wants for himself and the country.

Anyone on the right who wishes to remove Labour needs to vote Reform. As a lifelong Tory voter until the last election, I cannot lie about your chances, but you have my sympathies.

The Tories are the new Liberal party....Not the Lib Dems, but the original Liberal party.

It's sad to see.....but they did it to themselves.

The base had multiple opportunities to turn it around and failed....the left and centre of the party did a real number on them.

There will be the drip drip of defections and then when Labour call the election (they are unlikely to last until 2029) there will be a flood of them.

Farage will complete his remake of the Tories under a new name.

I expect to see a lot more joining Reform if the opinion polls continue to show disaster for Tories as I'm sure they will.
Farage has already said he doesn't want careerists looking to stay in a job. Hopefully they will get some genuine right wingers with some vision and experience.
They have already appealed for wisdom and experience from any appropriate background to prepare the party for government.

At the weekend on my 'Soapbox', I ridiculed the "Junk politics" of Reform.
It is 'Junk food' which delivers empty political calories.
A burger and fries looks more appealing when you have been fed a diet of bullshit for 15 years.

When like Reform one offers up on a platter a host of half-baked policies, you get a 'Dog's dinner' of a government.

I am in conversation tonight with a prominent member of the Conservative Party and I am very much looking forward to our discussion.I suspect I shall be on my 'Soapbox' once again !👍

What Farage says and what Farage does are rarely the same.

In that regard he'll be little change.

But he deserves his chance....I think that's the majority feeling in the country.

The Tories seemed unassailable at one stage, but a couple of inexplicably bad electioneering performances, a failure to build on Boris' brilliant Brexit victory and the misfortune and poor PR management of Covid, they find themselves in the doldrums.
I have no ill will towards the Tories as a party, but they have failed to remain 'conservative' because of their current make up.
Reform is the only right wing party that can win next time. That is unavoidable. It is a choice between the unknown and possibly unprepared, against the downright disastrous.
