Raheem Sterling

The only way I could see a deal for Sterling happening is a 1 year loan with Chelsea paying part of his wages. We might pay £200,00 pw but I doubt we would go higher than that.

I would be very surprised if it did happen.

I quite like him but paying him twice as much as Eze?

Without knowing what the hell is going on in the minds of Chelsea's decision makers it's impossible to predict what'll happen next with any certainty.

They've made their bed by offering him such daft money it totally skews the conversation, as clearly any club who could pay him that much don't need him, and the rest of us never would/could do..... so what now?!

I'd love to see him at Palace, but not if he'll upset the applecart or cost us a fortune - which will require Chelsea to do the decent thing and let him go somewhere whilst picking up a large chunk of his wages, which I just can't see them doing to a Premiership rival.

I doubt it.
The other 70k maybe.

Very astute comment. But he IS an experienced international player who would add a goal threat, coming on at 70 mins? A loan with Chelsea paying much of his wages , 🤔 maybe

Not for me.

While we have a track record of getting "fringe" players from Chelsea and turning them into England internationals, (RLC, Gallagher & Guehi) - we have also had some failures too (Remy, Bamford) so this idea of Sterling falls into the "caveat emptor" category of signing.

Like Zaha...he is too much a primadonna, wants the whole team to be built round him. Yes he can dribble but people seem to think he can replace Olise with assists and goals & the recent history tells you that this simply isn't going to happen with Sterling.

If his wages are the £200k a week being quoted on this thread (which I doubt as this is not how Chelsea do their contracts - this could be if all incentives are met but it's not his basic wage, surely)then it's a no go. We don't pay that and it'll cause huge upset. Same like Zaha - huge upset for players who actually produce like Eze.

Chelsea want rid so a loan, unless no takers very late on (I'm talking Friday afternoon 30th August), won't happen. Chelsea are more than happy to pay his stupid money if they don't get what they want so not sure they will "get desperate".

At 29, we won't give a long contract to him anyway so I can't see this happening.

Ambition to me means going out and getting someone like Arda Guler on loan for a year. Not an ageing has been who has performed very infrequently over the last 24 months. As neither are likely to happen & as the signing of Kamada & Sarr have taken the Olise position, this one is a no-go for us.

West Ham though would probably take him although even they have spent big, might not be able to afford him as they can't offload anyone!

Slightly baffled at the negativity towards Sterling. Especially seeing as some people seem open to getting Zaha back. The only valid argument, in my opinion, is that he's too expensive for our wage structure.

Sterling is a four time Premier League winner with 181 goals and 113 assists in 571 career appearances, with a goal contribution every 142 minutes across his career.

Meanwhile Zaha has 101 goals and 68 assists in 521 career appearances, with a goal contribution every 236 minutes of his career.

Sterling is two years younger than Zaha and last season, supposedly the worst season of his career and evidence that he's now rubbish, still banged in eight goals and four assists with a goal contribution every 166 minutes for a highly dysfunctional Chelsea team.

Zaha's best ever Premier League (21/22) season, by the way, was only three goal contributions better with a return of 14 goals and 1 assist.

If we're talking pure finishing ability, Sterling is a country mile ahead of Zaha and if it was a choice between the two for a season, it wouldn't be close for me.

A goal contribution in every 4 halves of football? That's 2 every 3 games. That's pretty expensive . At Palace he would be seen to do something every 90 minutes. That's the expectancy of Eze, Mateta now so for him it'd be even greater!

Wouldn't take Zaha back either. Too inconsistent, selfish & I question his motivation for coming back.

Yes 8 goals and 4 assists in 31 games sounds OK....but at Palace that would have to be 10 & 10 minimum to justify the tag.

The way we play we need the striker to score 20 and the AMs to get 10 each. It was always the yardstick that in a 4-4-2 to be successful you need 2 strikers scoring 20 each. That doesn't change and while Eze is capable of this, if he stays injury free, I'm not sure Sterling is.

He has potentially better players around him at Chelsea so those numbers should be better. Can he do it? Given that his best spell at City saw him do that, we ain't City and he isn't 23 any more.

Would be a huge statement signing but he would have to deliver. Benteke really didn't and comparatively this is the same level of investment.

That level of cost has to come with end product. Hasn't done it at Chelsea at all. It's going back 3 years before he had the kind of numbers that would justify the investment.

Risky

He will join on loan, and score 15+ goals this season 😉
